I hope to start up my engine this weekend, but i have a couple of questions. As a starting point for adjusting the valves, I tightened the rocker arm nuts by first rotating engine till the lifter is at the lowest point. Then i tighten so the pushrod cannot be spun, then about another 1/8 turn. I did this for all the valves. Also i'm not sure what sparkplug and gap to use. I have the aluminum angleplug heads, 58cc, casting# 10088113. Engine is a 350. Any input is appreciated.
I dont know if it is important but the lifters are roller lifters.

You don't want the pushrods tightened until they don't spin, that is too tight. Tighten them until the up down slop is taken out of the rocker arm + a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn if this is a hydraulic lifter cam. Solids are different.
I would do a search for the EO/IC valve adjustment method, it is the best one to use in my opinion.

I assume you're talking about hydraulic lifters.......

Your intial procedure is correct, that is, get the lifter on the low spot on cam lobe. Then, tighten nut until all play is just barely out of pushrod. You can feel it easy as the pushrod will spin by hand with no effort if it's too loose, then as you adjust nut down, there will be a small amount of effort required to rotate pushrod. This is zero lash. Getting an accurate "zero lash" is the most important part of the process. By tightening the pushrods until you can't turn them, you may actually have gone well beyond zero lash......

Once zero lash is established, I normally go about 1/8 turn more for hydraulic lifters.
