I puchased a car that has a 402 in it. If I pull the heads off, is there a way I can tell if the motor has forged pistons?

TIA

I am pretty sure most of the 402s had forged pistons.

Nope :noway:

All 4.094/4.125" Bore 396's/402's in factory confiqurations under 375HP (or "HP" as designated by GM) used Cast Alloy Alum., w/steel expansion ring, pressed-pin pistons up to 1971.
All the HP 375+ engines used Forged, in both pressed-pin and full-floating pin styles depending on piston type, from the factory.
All 402's from 1972 on used cast pistons, no more HP confiqurations were offered.

All 302's were forged though ;)
