I had to buy a new water pump and it has the fittings that screw in the back of the water pump for the heater hose and the bypass hose. I have used teflon tape and thread sealer, but when I fill the radiator, the fitting for the bypass hose dribbles water from the threads. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good way to stop this little leak?

Make sure the casting is not cracked, if someone previously threaded a pipe fitting in too far, it wil crack. if cracked, a fix would be to clean out with brake cleaner and use jb weld on the threads of the fitting, once installed you will never be able to remove the fitting.

If it's new and cracked or can't seal properly, I'd take it back.

If it's one of the new ones being made in Mexico or China, they'er built pretty cheaply (or at least the castings look that way). I bought a Federated (Federal Mogul; made in Mexico) one for my 69 396 and the casting was so coarse it looked pretty bad installed. Came packed in an oil film to keep from rusting! The heater hose bypass holes weere just a bit off as well. It would not line up right without a severe kink in the hose.

I took it back and ordered a TRW pump. The casting is much smoother and it fit and looks much better. Painted it orange and it came out looking great.

I'll probably send it the original 1970 GM pump to get rebuilt cuz it still looks the best. (The car is not a numbers matching).
