Water Pump Back Plate Bolts, SBC

This is probably nit picking, but did these 1/4-20 bolts have a specific marking on the head when originally assembled at the factory? I have two 3953692 pumps and both have a mixture of different head markings. They have been rebuilt in past so who knows which are correct.

Good question, they probably did. Maybe you could find a NOS example to see what type markings are on the bolt heads. I rebuild my BB pump long ago and used the bolts that came with the kit. Never thought to look at head marks to compare with what was on there.

Larry, the best thing to do is communicate what markings do you have as almost each bolt/screw had multiple suppliers and most are well known.
Here ya go...

They all are the same basic design with captured toothed washers.

Good one as this mfg marking is very common.

Good job! Several of these are quite common suppliers and used in other areas. If we numbered the pics starting top left to right 1, 2, then continue down counting similar I’m not sure about # 3 and 4. Number 3 has mfg marking configuration seen on head bolts and I’ve not noticed the mfg supplier marking on the number 4 bolt.
But, the configuration is important and as noted they are the same. NCRS due to so many bolt/screw suppliers primarily checks for correct configuration only. Those D and E ones very common!
Agree with Chick's observations. Amazing 2 pumps would have such a variety though !

LOL I should have wrote the “L” & “E” shown are quite common.
Yeah, since these are rebuilds who knows where the bolts came from. One had an old sticker on that said, "REBUILT BY INDEPENDENT REBUILDER". So I'm sure they had a bin full of miscellaneous bolts that they grabbed.

I'll post this question on CRG too.

Go for it Larry (crg) but what you have are correct except for one I’ve never noted which could be correct? So to be safe get some of the L or E and use them as they are common and easy to obtain if that is your supplier concern. As stated they are the correct configuration. Realize you have mix but some mixes are not uncommon. Our 68 had three different suppliers of bolts on our door hinges.
