I am replacing the front coil springs on an '80 Z. I have disconnected the front sway bar from the lower control arm and separted the lower ball joint. Internal style spring compressor put on and cranked down. When I lower the floor jack under the control arm the arm drops some but not enough for the ball joint to completely separate. What am I missing? This is my first coil spring swap. Does the spring attach to the control arm or the upper pocket and is this keeping it from dropping? Am I compressing the spring enough?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

did you disconnect the shock ???
Yep. Didn't have a jack stand under the control arm either, LOL.

Finally found it though. The outside edge of the lower control arm was catching on the dust shield and preventing it from dropping. Knew it was something. Just had to lay on the floor and stare at it a while.

Thanks,
