I believe that is the ballast resistor. I dont know much more than that, thats if i was even right in the first place

It is a ballast resistor. If you have a MSD or Accel coil being used with points ignitions, the resistor is added to GIVE resistance between coil/points so the points aren't welded shut/or burned out early. I think it's an 8 ohm rating.

Their both correct. I just installed a painless wire kit and they even suggest utilizing one with the MSD ignition.

Thanks folks!

I have an Accel Super Coil with a Mallory unilite distrib. That must be why it's there.
