my car is backfireing when i give it gas... and it idles really rough. whats that mean? i have myscrews set to 2.5 out. i was told that is correct. what should i do?

You turn to adjust them for the highest vacuum or RPM reading, or better yet, use a A/F sensor. There is no number of turns that it should be set at, it varies with each engine.

Sounds like your too lean if the backfire is out the carb.

the backfire si out of the tailpipe, sounds like a gunshot. i turned them out just one turn and it runs, but not too well. @ leats it doesnt backfire anymore...

Hook up a tach or a vacuum gauge and turn both screws (evenly) until you get the highest RPM/vacuum.

This is all assuming you've got your ignition set up right.
