Just takin' a survey on your 454 engine combo. Everything from heads, to carbs to the exhaust!! I wanna know your engine specs in detail and the dyno results or track time. I'm getting ready to build mine and want some numbers.
i don't own a big block but i know they LOVE to breath.i cant tell you about the heads but i know the edelbrock 454 dual plane intake is awsome,if you can find one.they need at least 850 cfm to be kept happy. use a cam of atleast 230 degrees duration at .050". and if they make them anymore get the "D" inserts that go in the exghaust port before you bolt the header on(picks up flow considerably).keep the compresson at 9.5 to 1. use large fuel line to feed carb.look into good computer controled ignition(jacobs, they acually "lend out"they computer patten to other manufacturues). have fun!
My 468 will be going on the dyno in a few days. Boodlefoof was kind enought to run a desk top for me but I'm not sure I gave him enough information and I wasn't sure of the head flow.
Anyway, 60 over 454, GM aluminum oval ports, 225 int. 188 ex. 290 cc intake runner. XE284H Comp Cams 240 @ 50 int. and 246 @ 50 ex. on a 108. Weisco 9.4 to 1 forged pistons (heads cut .030" to make compression), Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, 750 CFM carb, polished stock crank and ARP main studs, 1 7/8" headers into a 3" collector.
Guessing at the intake flow, the desk top said 463 HP at 5500 RPM and around 490 lbs I think.
My engine man said 520 HP at 6000 based on other engines he has built.
We'll see this week. I'll post the dyno results at weeks end.
Hey Toby Keen, just curious where your taking your motor to get it put on a dyno?
And whats it costing you? I have a guy in Brighton/Milford that gets you on the dyno all day for $500 8 Hours and the guy that runs the dyno is really good. If you want to know more about it, let me know and I will give you the details...
