Punch one out of a bit od scrap foam rubber
I keep a set of hole punches in my tool box...espec handy for making carb /diff gaskets and stuff.

Stepman,..I thought about doing that but don't know what material would hold up to the grease, friction and heat. Ideas?

Was thinking about one of those washers that go on the battery terminal ?

Get some 1/4 inch thick closed cell foam.

Thick felt was orginally used on vintage cars, that had been soaked in oil.
And as Everett says closed cell rubber foam , like the stuff used on hiker bed rolls.

And pipe insulation.
pipe insulation well the stuff I have in mind is round...a foam bed roll is flat, easier to make lol
even so, thats the stuff.
