I know that my 454 is not the original block. The car was restored sometime in the late 90’s and a GM 454 block was used. I need to install a new flywheel, bellhousing, oil pan and some other parts and know that if the block was made after 1990 the parts are not same as the earlier 454 block (1970 to 1990)
Any idea where on the block the date or at least the year might be stamped ?
Or, any idea how I would tell if it’s a pre 1991 block ? I don’t want to order the wrong parts.
Many thanks

Where on an NOM GM 454 block would the date be stamped ?

A date code for the block casting should be on the bellhousing flange boss. And maybe down along the oil pan rails... Probably by the coolant drain plugs??

I think the change was when they went from a 2-piece crank seal to a 1-piece.

So go from there unless it's Bowtie block?
