Does any MBU's know if the 1969 #2 ZL1 Camaro Shay Nichols drag car has been located? The car was featured in a 1971 magazine where it states that she purchased the car from Dick Harrell for $7000.00 then spent another $10,000 to prepare the car. It was painted candy tangerine over yellow pearl lacquer and ran 10.26 at 136.82 mph. One odd detail about the article is that it shows the car with a white interior but the ZL1 listing shows it was Dusk Blue with a black interior.

According to the Fred Gibb interview in the John Hooper 1969 Camaro book (page 211). Fred states that the ZL1 Camaro #2 was prepared by Dick Harrell for Shay Nichols.

The # 2 car is at Corvette Specialists in Beaumont TX. It is a plain jane Sunoco blue with a column shift! I saw a retro article on the car recently. He did have it on his web site at one time. It was not for sale the last time I heard. I have some photos if any one is interested.

Hey Joe,
The article was written by Ro McGonegal and published in a "Hot Rod Camaros " mag( Peteren Publishing ) that I found here in GA back in Oct/ Nov time. The display instructions say to keep it on the stand until Jan 24, 2000. This same issue has the 6 part collection on the " Thrasher '69 Camaro Buildup" Pretty good stuff. When I get my scanner back up I'll post or send photos to you.

Sorry, I forgot they did not use the last 's' in their address. I think it was at an Ingles grocery store that I found the mag although I have been looking at others such as Books a Million, Barnes & Noble, Media Play etc. Now I have to find the installation software for my scanner to re install since upgrading to W98 messed up the original. That software has got to be in this office space somewhere

Mike is the owner of the #2 ZL-1. He is at Corvette Specialists. I re-read the article and it does not mention it as the #2 car. The photos and mention of a column shift had me thinking it was the same car. It still might be, it just doesn't make that point as it was originally written when the car was delivered to Fred Gibb. I think it is the same car.

PS Mike has a nice poster with the history of the car. I have a photo of it as well that I can read. I hope the scan is readable too. I have asked Mike for permission to post these photos. He might want to do his own thing.

Mike Flash answered the e-mail I sent to the Corvette place. He said it's ZL1 #2 the ex-Shay Nichols drag car. His e-mail address is on the Corvette web site
