Hello,

I recently purchased a 69 Camaro RS. Its all original. Hugger Orange/Black Houndstooth. 350 engine 250HP/2 barrel --350 auto trans--10 bolt rear. I purchased it from the original owner. They drove it for 3 or 4 years then parked it and only drove it on weekends rarely thru 1992. Car has not been driven since 1992. It has been garaged. I received the protect o plate and owners manual and found the build sheet above the gas tank, drivers side. I have found it has factory A/C, front disc brakes, and Black houndstooth interior so far. I verifed the engine number matchs the VIN. T0303HD 19527580
Who is the best source to buy replacement parts? PLan on keeping the car all original and as a survivior.

Thanks in advance.

Damon

Congrats on the score. Nice paperwork.
Here's your decode,
1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
9 = 1969 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
527580 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 306341

No Build date given.
69-12437 = Coupe.
VN = Built in Van Nuys California.
713 = Custom Houndstooth Black Bucket Seats.
72-B = Lower Color is Hugger Orange and the Vinyl Top Color is Black.
P503 = internal plant scheduling code.

I couldn't read your build date.

Ohmygawd! You're almost next door! Want help cleaning the engine compartment?!
Edit; How about some help removing those parking lot body dent preventors? When they came out I couldn't figure a way to install them properly on my 69. Now I remember why.

Damon,
Welcome to the site. Nice find!! Beautiful example of a chassis broadcast copy. Amazing a standard 8x11 piece of paper would hold up so long, but it happens.

Looks like the under-hood area has barely been touched.
Enjoy!!

from my point of view . get the engine bay all cleaned up. might pul the engine to really get at it. For hells being redo the area. i have a 69RS and I am glad the guy i got it from left it in half a$%#@$ shape and I just detailed the thing to show shine.

Hey Damon,

Nice looking car! I have a similiar car that i picked up from the original owner a few summers ago. Mine is not an RS, but has many RS features including orange houndstooth interior as well as the front disc brakes and AC. Our engine compartments looked very similiar, although I've since had my engine completely rebulit to stock specs as it became necessary for the car to run properly. My car sat for eight years prior and that sitting is quite hard on them.

I went through my car and replaced many minor things that were worn or missing. Most of my parts I purchased through "Classic Industries" or "Rick's First Generation". They have been the best outlets for me.

Good luck and enjoy your car!

Don't restore it, just clean it up, repair the seat cover, etc.

It can only be a survivor once!!!
Survivor would mean it was never repainted. Looks like it was repainted at one time and whoever put on the 350 emblem put it in the wrong location. The emblems should be at the front of both fenders. Missing on the passenger side.

Nice car. I would detail the heck out the engine compartment, turn the whitewalls in and drive it.

Anybody else notice that the broadcast sheet shows 72 coded for both upper and lower color but the trim tag and car has a black vinyl top? Interesting.

Rick H.

Kevin, the RS features were mostly exterior and cosmetic. RS did not mean houndstooth interior or different brakes or a/c.
RS only was a trim package. The other items you mentioned were options available on any camaro then. :) Just so readers dont get confused on what the RS included. :)

Im impressed!

Thanks for all the info everyone. I found classic industries earlier today, will look up Ricks. So if I pull the engine & trans, have them cleaned up and rebuilt to stock original specs, is that against the survivor rules? The paint is original for the most part. They touched up the fenders and drivers door due to door dings (as the story goes). I ran a magnet over the car and it is solid, even around the windows and frame around the hood and trunk. The exterior and interior is beyond my expectations. The undercarraige and engine is another story. I noticed the 350 emblem deal, the pass. side was in the glove box. I also thought they should be up front, is that 100% accurate?

Thanks again for all the info. At this point I am open for all ideas on what to do from here. I definatley plan to keep in "all original" one way or another.

Thanks,

Damon

A few more pictures & a question. What kind of oil filter arrangement would this car have come with originally? I think the previous owner (who has past away) installed a remote filter.

Thanks,

Damon

Yes the 350 emblems should be at the front of the fenders, right in front of the parking lights. If the fenders are original you will be able to see where the original emblem holes were filled by looking inside the fender. Might be a little tough to see with the vacuum tank in the way on the drivers side. Passenger side should be easier especially if you pull the battery.
Nice AM/FM!!
Enjoy,
Doug

Let me make a suggestion. Please remove that carpet in the trunk. It's a huge moisture barrier and can cause huge rust issues now that the car is back in the elements. I don't even like trunk mats because they trap moisture as well.

And they hide the true condition.:noway:

Oil filter should be the spin on type originally. XG coded ralley wheels, car was built on March 25th. Front Springs were EM code, shocks were PW code. Rear spring looks like BK code?? Multi leafs?

350 emblems should be here:
