I am restoring a 68 350. I have not touched the engine yet. I am not going to race it except maybe a few passes at the track. WHat I want is the best sound. WHat combination of Header, pipes, and muffler should I use. I was thinking of headman 1 5/8 headers. glass packs, and 2 1/2 pipes

The above combo would definately turn (cops) heads!
Please don't use glasspacks unless it's going to be puppied around. My uncle has them on his 327/4-spd 63 impala SS and it gets really annoying in a short time. It sounds great at idle and going down the road but as soon as you lean on the throttle for any reason....BRAAAAAAAAAP!!! It's just too loud for me.
My buddy just put Flowmaster "hush-power" mufflers on his truck and it sounds really nice.

You should do a search on here about the Flowmasters. In my opinion, they are too loud for cruisers and it sounds to me like a lot of people feel the same way. Somewhere it was also mentioned that Magnaflow made more dyno power than Flowmaster. I will be taking my Flowmasters off and installing Magnaflows when the time to start driving it again gets closer.

Todd , here is a clip of my Magnaflow 2 1/2" system with x-pipe and 1 5/8 " Hookers on my 327.
please exuse the 20 seconds of blue screen at the beginning.
and the sound is much deeper than what you can hear with computer speakers and not very good with laptop speakers at all. Wish I could find a way to record sound better.

Sound is just to subjective, differnet people like too many different things.
I found flowmaster delta 40's to sound like a truck, plus so much resonance at cruise that I couldn't think straight.

I do love the sound of a good glasspack, but at this point I'm kinda old for that.

Borla's sound GREAT, and are very quiet at cruise. Magnaflows are similar.

Try The new fully welded muffler from thrush they are copies of flowmasters and I think sound just as good and there like 40 bucks compared to 80 or 90. Ive got a set on my chevelle and they sound awesome and are are pleasant sounding at cruising speeds, It doesn't bother my wife and kids on long trips.

Anybody else play that video and be struck with the coolness of the web? I've been playing on it since it was invented, but lordy, this sure isn't hanging out at the gas station listening to guys cars come in for their nightly tank of gas.

Jerry...
The video of "YOUR" car :clonk:

Sounds great :)

Kev
Oh that video
when he said cool it threw me off
but yes it is cool when you have a tool like the internet to accomplish things like send images and sound so easily compared to what we had years ago. Surely makes this hobby easier.

hooker supercomps, 2.5 dia pipes 2 chamber flowmasters.
I will second that combo! ;)
This is what I have on my car and it sounds great but recently I wanted to swap the mufflers out with the one chambers!!
