I realize that having a car that is painted its original color is considered “more valuable” to those how prize originality.

But my question is would painting my car back to its original glacier blue color add value? Now, I know it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay and all that.

Does anyone know how many were made with that paint color? I have yet to see one with that color as I think it’s not as “eye catching” as some of the other color options.

Thanks

I think Glacier Blue is a great color. Yes, some other colors like Lemans Blue or Hugger Orange might be more "eye catching", but the first gen cars are eye catching by themselves, no matter what color they are, IMO. I personally like seeing some of the less common colors at the shows - I get a little bored with seeing so many of the "popular" colors, not to knock them or anything. Heck, I have a Garnet Red car myself.

Almost any of the factory colors look great with a nice shiny clear coat and some accent stripes.

There is no bad color for the 69 model year ;)

4.2% were Glacier blue and I think it looks good and as mentioned is an different color than you are used to see, dare to be different :).
Here is another one.

I had a documented Canadian Z that was Glacier blue. The previous owner had painted it black because when he restored it all the replacment sheet metal was black and he like the look with the Ivory interior.
I never put it back and sold it with the black paint. I think now that it would have been a pretty rare Z, with the original Glacier blue and Black Z stripes.

I think it will depend on what else is original to the car. I've been told by guys that know more than me about this that if it's not the original motor and such, color isn't going to really matter. My g.f. thought she didn't like gold Camaros till we saw one at a show. I think any blue is great. Glacier blue would look without a spoiler imo. (glacier blue with black/white houndstooth??)

The original color of mine was Glacier Blue before someone painted it the color you see in my pics. Now that I have seen the actual color on a real car in the pics on this thread I really like it and I am considering it when I repaint. I like it with the white rally stripes. I am going to make it an RS clone I guess since I really like the grill and intend on adding one. I am not sure what else I would have to add to it for it to be considered an RS clone?

My Glacier blue Z had Ivory interior, and I think that the Glacier blue with Ivory and black houndstooth would look killer. I think that the color to me needs a black stripe for contrast. With the silver grille it would be a rare and sweet looking ride.

A biy of powered purple peril in the 1st coat of clear, about 1/2 teaspoon per gun pot..
One doesnt notice in the normal day light but it does reflect real nice around the car
Put under street lights and looks magic
Its a great colour for not showing road film splatter on wet roads

If u are not going to sell it, its not an issue.

You don't state what color it is now, but if it needs paint, seriously consider returning it to Glacier Blue. That is a nice color ........

Joe: are you keeping the interior? I know your post is about body work.. I posted earlier about black/white houndstooth. when I was considering different colors on my '68, I mocked up all blues with houndstooth and it looked really good.
I dont know about the interior yet. I had entertained the idea of painting it dover white and using that blue interior like my original 69 I sold in 95 like an idiot. Now I am all over the place. Really like the glacier blue with white rally stripes and an RS grill. May customize the interior a bit, at least the gauges and front seats anyway so stock colors may become a pain at that point

Just looked at your photo album. Looks like you have some time to think about paint......:( that is an extensive project to take on. You'll probably change your mind a few times during the restoration of the body....;)
Good luck.......
