I bought some tall aluminum valve covers for my small block 350 and had to drill a 1.22" hole in each one, a PCV in one and a breather in the other. I have a Moroso grommet designed to be a grommet and a baffle for the PCV, but the engine is sucking oil up through the PCV. This grommet has a small slit in the bottom and is supposed to allow a draw of crankcase gasses and not allow oil to get in. Well it don't work! Does anybody know of a kit available or maybe a better designed grommet to do the job. I thought I had big problems with this new engine until I found out where the oil was going.
Thanks
Jim

Yeah, the aluminum valve covers from Billet Specialties, Edelbrock, etc, have baffles that attach from the bottom with screws, and the holes are pre cut. Of course, the less expensive covers don't have those.

I believe Moroso sells a similar baffle that would have to be bonded to the inside of the valve cover with JB Weld or epoxy.

I had to drill my cast alum Chevrolet covers and had no baffels as well. What I did was cut small plates out of alum and drilled them and screwed them to my rocker studs, works like a charm, of course my studs were allready tapped for the set screws (fine threads). These plates are about 3" by 4" and just clear the side of the covers but did the trick for me. Good luck with what ever you do!

I have the same setup but no problems. On your new engine, you don't have any blowby do you? I thought the Moroso slit was ok to keep splashed oil from going into the grommet. Also, what about rotating the grommet so the slit faces a different way? Cheap diagnostic. Also, assuming the crank isn't pressurized, you could put a small piece of foam into the grommet. I bought a set at Carlisle that had these foam 'plugs'.

you could get a pair of the pretty chrome "Mopar" style breathers that have the baffling inside them- that's what all the Mopar v8 engines from the 60's on up into the 90's used, and it worked for them. plug the PCV valve into one of them, and run another one on the other valve cover with a hose going to the air cleaner for fresh air intake, and you are done.
