I am swapping a 9" rear end into my 67 camaro.

The axles are from Moser and have the chevy bolt pattern.

I used the ford backing plates and bought ford drums with the intent of just drilling the chevy bolt pattern into them. However, the center cut-out diameter of the drum is about an inch larger than the axle center protrusion.

Should I be concerned if the drum and wheels are only supported through the 5 studs on the axle?
Should I look for a different drum or add a spacer/washer to increase the diameter of the axle center to fit the drum?

The portion of the axle that "registers" the brake drum in relation to the axle should have been machined to the 9" dimension and not the dimension of the Chevy axle. I don't think there will be a problem with the wheels as the wheel studs hold the wheel on and the part of the axle that "locates" the brake drum on the axle does not, it only serves to center the brake drum on the axle. The wheel studs and "register" portion of the axles/ brake drums perform 2 different functions, each independent of the other.

You need to check the axles to see if they were cut for Ford or Chevy brakes. The axles hang out from the end of the housing a certain amout. The Chevy axles hang out 2 3/4 inch. Ford axles hang out 2 1/2 inch. If the axles were cut for Chevy brakes then the drums are not going to fit correctly. You might have a mixed up mess on your hands.

I have the 11" drums. My subject line is confusing but I meant 9" rearend.
Understood your point. Early Mustangs used the 9" axle and have 9" brake drums.

Trucks and full-size cars used 11" brakes, I think - I am over 40 yrs old..............
