I been lurking here past couple of days and seems like a friendly place with a wealth of information so I joined.
That being said here's some history:
I grew up during the muscle car era and as a kid loved the 69 camaros. but being 9yo in 69 was resigned to playing with my hot wheels cars.
At age 22 I sought out to buy a original 69 DZ equipped Z-28 and had found many at the time but always longed for a convertible. Out goes the Z enter pacecar.
Found one threw a friend of a friend who had a friend that owned a unrestored original that was a friend of his in Ventura Cali. Had some detailed pictures sent to me with documentation before leaving.
Anyway, I ended up flying down to Ventura Cal from SE WA and met the guy at the airport. He picked me up at the airport in the 69 top down. It wasn't to hard finding this car in the sea of other cars while as he was perusing the parking area at John Wayne airport. This all seemed like an adventure to me at age 23.
I now have owned the car for some 27 years. Jeesh! Always garaged. The car is a number match Z-11, HA 350Ci 300Hp, Muncie M21(weird) close ratio transmission w/muncie shifter, 12 bolt rear that I believe is a 3.73. all unmolested.
No AC, No pwr Top. Does have console gauges, clock, tach, with typical blk houndstooth interior molded door panels (now cracking). "Kidding on the blk." I paid 4k for the car. People deemed them gas guzzlers and wanted them gone.
Immediately replaced the houndstooth with new as it was showing age. Also removed smog pump, cast exhaust manifolds, cast intake manifold, and cast heads. Replaced them all with aluminum. Headers of course not aluminum. I still have all the original parts.
12 years ago I had a repaint and replaced the front bumper with a Endura bumper, and install the missing headlight sqirter nozzles. Love to show off this high tech option to friends. Still looking for liquid tire chain! lol
I have never registered this car in any registry or subscribed to any other forum and would be an unknown to the internet community. It would be a undocumented surviving pacecar known only to Chevrolet motor division build data and the local DMV.
I rarely drive it anymore and seem to have lost the passionate interest other than its intrinsic value and fun. When I do drive It I always have renewed appreciation for its crudeness, lack of creature comfort and its simplicity. You just don't see even hot-rodder beater 67'8'9's running around anymore. I still love the car and prolly wouldn't part with it. I'm just not passionate about it as in days past. Sorry for the long post!
Thats it, so hello all!
