Global West SFC's and rear frame rails

Just came back from the shop and was looking at a few things.
One of the things that sorta jumped out at me was the very rear edge of the Global West SFCs where they meet up with the rear frame rails.
The front edge of the piece lines up perfectly with the frame rail.
The rear edge has a gap of approx. 1", and you're supposed to weld in a small steel rectangular "filler" piece?

Looks like they kind of messed up on the attachment bracket, like if they'd put the right angle on the pipe, they could have matched the fit much better, and there wouldn't be a need for the little filler plate.

Is this just me?...why don't they build it so it just lines up, or at least closer than this? I like the product, I like the way it looks and attaches to the front sub, just seems like they could have done a better job on the frame rail piece.

I'll post pics l8r.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when mine were going on, that gap surprised me and the "filler piece" seemed like a cheezy, cheap fix. If I were to do it over I'd go with the Hotchkis connectors, but they weren't available yet when I bought mine. My theory is it's like that to account for differences from one car to the next and differences in how they're installed, but even so, they could probably get it a lot closer than that.

I was thinking the same thing about compensating for "sag"...but even that doesn't really work.

Glad it's not just me scratchin' my head.

Thanks,

It's not a problem...that's actually the way they're supposed to fit.
You weld them to the frame rails, and then there's a "cap" piece that goes over the gap.

Just seems like a really odd way to do it.

The connectors themselves look good...should make a big difference in the car. I also am not welding the fronts to the subframe, yet, just incase it ever needs to come off.

This shows the cover piece, but also shows the amount of the bracket that goes up around the rear frame rails. Plenty for a solid connection...just seemed like an odd way for them to do the bracket.
