Yep. I have 2 more weeks in California and Ill be packed up and headed back home. I wanted to retire from the Navy but at this juncture, I believe leaving the Navy at 11 years is not a bad decision. I already miss the Navy bad enough, at times, it brings a tear to my eye. Ive never been one to regret decisions I make at any point in time. However, this has been one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make. Unless you have been in that position you couldnt, cant, know the feeling of being a part of something bigger. I joined the Navy because I was tired of 'small town'. Funny, the one thing I ran from when I was younger is the one thing I end up running to as I am older. Like others whom have served, I have seen lots of thing and places. I have been to countries I never knew existed. I watched the Prince of Jordan, himself, walk around the first American Naval aircraft carrier ever sailed up into the Jordan strait, in complete awe of its size and ability to take the fight to the problem. The USS John F. Kennedy, CV-67. The smallest carrier of, yours and our's, Naval aresenal. I have fed candy to children who didnt even know what it was or how to open, it let alone eat it.
I think its time to move forward and give my children a steady home, a consistent Father, and a loving Daddy. Im tearing up as I write this, lol.
The Navy has been good to me and if they would give me orders closer to my family in Oklahoma, I would gladly give 20 more years. I want to Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen for paying your taxes. I had a blast, all on your dime. At the end of the year when you write a check payable to the IRS, remember those who gave more than money. I certainly will. I am not leaving the boards, or Camaro-ville, just the Navy and this hard life.
To all my brothers and sisters still in uniform, I Thank You wholeheartedly.
