I've been reading here for several years, but haven't posted much. I'm finally having time to work on my Camaro, and ran into a problem that I thought someone might have some input on before I waste more money!

I have a 67 RS/SS 396 that originally had manual drum brakes. I'm converting it to disc, using one of Matt's Bowties correct booster/ mc/ prop valve units and single piston calipers. On one of my last parts orders before ordering the mc and booster I bought brake lines, and bought a 69 front set thinking that would be what I'd need to match up with the new mc. I didn't realize that the brake lines are not the same on the wheel end. Will lines for 67 power disc brakes be the correct set or is there something else I'll need to do?

Is your valve one of the later model units that combines the splitter, pro valve, and brake warning switch into one unit?

Your best bet is probably going to be to talk to tech at Matt's. They have been pretty 1st gen savvy the times I have talked to them.

As you have found out, the 69 setup uses hardlines that meet the flex hose at the top of the subframe, rather than on the outboard side of the subframe rails like 67 and 68. If you didn't care about looking OE (which, if you're using single piston calipers, you may not be), it is fairly simple to get and install the brackets where the hardlines and flex hoses meet, like this:

(ignore the hardline in the photo, it was incorrect)

Then you can use the 69 flex hoses, and attach them to the upper control arms like OE. I like that way better than the on the side of the rails setup; this is the same way I did my 68.

But, if you have the combination valve, I am not sure an OE replacement line set for either 67-68 or 69 is going to work, which is why I suggested calling Matt's. There are kits/lines that work for the "conversion" setup, and there are kits/lines that work for OE replacement setups, but you have to know which one you are trying to do.

Does any of that make sense? It's early here, and I may be rambling... :)

Eric,
Thanks very much for the response. I'm using the master with the correct distribution block/ proportioning valve, so I'm guessing that the 67 lines would work at that end.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize the lines terminated at different locations on the sub until I talked to Matt's. I'd really like to keep the brackets on the side, so I was hopeful that the 67 lines would do the trick.

However, you bring up another point I hadn't thought about - brake hoses. I wonder if the 67 hoses would be the right length to meet up with the single piston calipers?

I have a boatload of pics from when I installed my disc system. Keep in mind that I went with the correct 4 piston calipers for '67 so if you have something different you'll have to extrapolate :)
