Could a '72 LT1 be a 2 bolt? One's for sell on ebay and it's a 2 bolt not 4 bolt. Wouldn't a '72 Z28 CKT have a 4 bolt? And the code on the back is H 8 5. Did something change in '72 or is this a '75 engine? Thanks!
Someone more familiar with engine numbers can probably answer that but by 1972 they had pretty much killed off the performance so it's entirely possible Chevy didn't see any reason to use their "heavy duty" block anymore in anything except trucks & busses. Muscle cars were pretty close to dead by 72.Could a '72 LT1 be a 2 bolt? One's for sell on ebay and it's a 2 bolt not 4 bolt. Wouldn't a '72 Z28 CKT have a 4 bolt? And the code on the back is H 8 5. Ed it's got to be this one.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car...sh=item260370183957&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72:1171|65:12|39:1|240:1318 CKT code, 1975 casting date, 1976 VIN number, el-cheapo 4 valve relief pistons, 2 bolt main, probably a cast crank. Other than the suffix code there is NOTHING about this that has anything to do with an LT-1... run Forrest, run... The "K" in the picture looks a little funny and is stamped way lighter than the C or the T. I wonder if it started life as CRT... CRT 1976 350 - 165 4 VetteThe 1972 Z28 and Corvette LT1 both received 4 bolt mains. If the date code really is H-8-5, that would be August 8th, 1975 and not a 1972 engine.
What's the auction number?

Jim, You are correct, FWIW, 1973/1974 Z28 used the cast iron intake and quadrajet carb, and most late production 1974 Z28,s I have taken apart had 1.94 heads and 2 bolt mains, but they did have the forged crank. 1973 still had 4 bolt as well as 2.02 heads. Interesting also is that 72/73/74 ALL used the flat top L82 Type forged pistons.73 & 74 Camaro L-82 Z28's ALSO got the 4 bolt mains, they were basically an LT-1 without the solid lifters and the Holley/alum highrise. The rods, crank, pistons, dampener, etc all the same ...
