Anyone have any experiences with Shafiroff crate engines?

Looking at the Shafiroff package, it looks like you need a grand for the carb package, plus 600 for the MSD setup...closer to 11k ?

I have an engine from Vortecpro (the ebay guy), and can tell you it's the best bang for the buck that I could find! The builder is Mark Jones in Colorado- he posts on the Chevelles forums (as mike1231) and knows his onions!!!

Just a thought as an option....

good to see you on this forum...and yes I keep up with ALL your posts on Chevelles!...BTW-engine is running great- will pm you with a couple of questions I have...

My only complaint about the engine would be the carb. I went with the 950HP since this is a street car. Since then, I found out that the 950HP only flows 830 CFM, way too small for a 540 spinning at 6800. I need to upgrade to the 1000HP, but I have other things that are more important right now to drop $800 on.

The other thing to be aware of, between the 950HP and the Vic Jr, I had NO vacuum ports. I needed vacuum for the brakes, distributor, and trans, so I had to replace the baseplate on the carb.

To make a long story short, I would recommend Shafiroff to anyone. First rate stuff (for the money).

I also have same 540 with no complaints. As stated above, the 950 is to
small for the motor. I called Mike at Shafiroff and he recommended using
a 1050 Dominator (approx 25hp gain). Mike said the 950 acts as a restricter on the motor.
