For those of you who are running World Sportman II heads, what is your setup and how are they performing?
I bought a set of 64cc, 2.02/1.60 heads for a good price and was wanting to use them on a 383 flat top build.
Just wanting to see the results and combinations of others who have used or are using them.

ET's/HP info ect.

I ran them on the first engine I built about 8 years ago. It's been a while but here is what I rememeber:

406, 10.3:1, Performer RPM intake and cam (234/244, .488/.510), Holley 750 DP, 11" 2800 stall, 3.73 gear, TH350. I think the best that combo went was 7.75 in the 1/8th.

I was happy with the heads but upgraded to AFRs after 2 seasons.

I have them on my 383 stroker but can't answer your questions, my engine runs well but I have not run this combo with other heads. The SPII heads I'm using are angle plug 76cc or 72cc I believe. With the KB pistions and a .015" deck the comp ratio is right at 9.87:1

Later this summer I may be swapping the heads with the ones on the 35o in the Nova but that doesn't help you now...

I ran these heads but they were ported. DD '69 camaro with full interior, 383ci 10.75:1cr, hr cam with 244@.050", air gap intake(port-matched), mighty demon 750, and a 3k stall in a th400 with 3.70:1 rear gears and 26" et streets ran a best of 13.02@102mph at Infineon. Best 60ft was a high 1.8 if I remember correctly. I think I was running out of fuel but I'll never know.

I built a Steel crank 4 bolt ,357 for my Vette a few years back...-200cc Sportsmens-64cc...with Flat tops and a Comp Cam .525-Lift 292 duration..Performer Rpm-Edelbrock 750-for ease of TV cable adjustment..:hurray: B&M 2800 -Stall-Hooker-Headers.. -duals-Flo-Master-40z.... The Cars for PROFILIN- But with Highway Gears its still a Torque MONSTER...CRAZY GOOD gas Mileage.....I BABY IT "one owner LOW MILE Z-51" the rims are BILLET SPECIALTIES TALLEDEGAS..... Funny Story one guide was too tight and a Valve stuk during BREAK IN...."YOU DO NOT WANT TO PULL A CYLINDER HEAD ON A C4 VETTE" when the Engines still in....GM guys hate it....only thing worse is a Heater core replacement on these cars:yes:

I wish my BRODIX had accesory holes

I did a lot of work on mine. I have an SBC 400 .020" over so I have a 4.145" bore. I knocked the chamber walls back quite a bit on the intake side. You can see how bad the shrouding is in their stock form. On a 4" bore you can still knock them back a good amount.

The valve guide bossed are pretty big on them. I teardropped all of them for more flow.

The short turn radii were pretty pointed too. I ground those down to eliminate them. There are a lot of sharp edges and machining restrictions. You can go in with a die grinder and clean the heads up a bunch. You have to be careful though. One wrong slip and it is off to the machine shop for repairs. If you are confident with a grinder then have at it. Don't try and open them up unless you know where to remove material. I would just focus on the casting issues and the intake valve shrouding. These heads are weak on the exhaust side so if anything the valve guide bosses and short turn are good to fix there.

It's been 20 years since I used them -- at the time they were the best street strip head out there (except maybe some Brownfields) that you could use on a hot 355 or 327. The 383 was still uncommon they were a nice step up from the then popular Camel hump heads.

The Sportsman II's will support about 400-425 HP with a flat tappet cam -- I liked the Comp 280H Magnum cam with these heads on a 355 with flat top pistons. Top it off with a 650 double pumper and a Performer RPM and you have a pretty solid street / strip combo.

Hope that helps.

PS. At the time I went 13.3's at 104 MPH in an 84 Camaro with a 355 and 5 speed on street tires.

At one time I had a pair of hogged out 462 double humps on a 406 with a 292 hydro cam in my Nova and I got it to turn 11.21 ET's.
I will have to see what I can do with these 200cc, Sportsman II's. Maybe somecleaning up will get these things to perform pretty good on the 383 I am wanting to build.

didn't drag fabricator a set on a very optimized combo?

victor,

I believe I went 11.94 with my set up and a flat tappet cam. If you go roller, or put a big ole stall in it you can get there with them.

11's shouldnt be a issue!
