I am running the Lunati Voodoo 268 cam and Edelbrock Performer carb. I am having trouble getting the best idle and mixture adjustment. The cam is pretty lopey and my rpms jump all over the place over a 100RPM range so it is very hard to adjust the carb. I took it out for a test drive and it stalled every time I stopped with the idle around 800RPM. The engine is not broken in, just the cam.

First thing i think every one here will agree on, is to make sure your timing is set right.. Initial and total timing what is it set at right now.
Also 1000rpm's should be fine but we need more specs, motor, cam, carb, ignition, vacuum, compression and so on.

i agree

i was NEVER able to get my cam tuned properly until i set the timing correctly

a member on this board once said "most carb problems come from the distributor" and it is so very true

If you are running vacuum advance make sure you have enough manifold vacume to hold it in at idle and not letting the timing jump around, if it is you may need a new can that will pull in at a lower vacuum.

It is a .030 over 327 with about 9.5 compression if I remember correctly (flat top pistons 64cc chambers). I have 36 degrees of advance total at 4000rpm. With the vacuum advance at idle it is about 30 degrees. I have a mallory ignition and I think the vac is adjustable. I will take a look and see if the timing is jumping around at idle.
