The power steering box on my 69 was leaking where the pitman arm connects, so I replaced it and bled it. Everything works fine except there exists a repetitive spot where the wheels are hard to turn (even with the tires jacked off the ground). It occurs about every 180 degrees. When the hard spots occur, you can see the steering column (inside the car, where it meets with the steering wheel) move slightly upward from the pressure being placed on it.
I didn't verify that the rag joint was installed exactly the same as it before and am thinking it may be the problem (or at least part of it). When I had the rag joint removed and placed it on a flat surface, two of the bolt holes (that are 180 degrees apart) were elevated by about 1/4" to 3/8" relative to the other holes. I used the elevated holes for the "pins" and the other two for the bolts, but may have installed in inverted and rotated (relative to how it was installed before I replaced the box).
Help would be greatly appreciated. I've done a lot of work on cars before, but not steering box related.
Thanks!
