Hey guys... was hoping to get a ballpark idea of what some of you guys might pay/offer for a 1968 camaro project that I am considering buying.

Car codes as an original Palomino White 327 V8 with gold deluxe interior. Currently, vehicle comes with a built non-numbers matching 327 and a 4 speed out of a corvette. Both engine and tranny are sitting on a furniture dolly---No way of knowing if they are actually in good condition. Vehicle is in primer after having been taken down to bare metal and having both rear quarters, roof, inner/outer cowl, and a couple other misc. things replaced. Panels seem to line up o.k. No signs of bondo or poor rust repair. Trunk and floor pan had some rust pinholes filled and prepped. Doors are straight. Car has NO interior installed at all. Has front buckets and rear bench seats that need new covers and most likely the foam too. Wire harness is out of vehicle but seems to be in good condition. There is a front subframe that will need to be rebuilt. Other than the subframe, there is no front end sheetmetal beyond the firewall. Rear end is there also and all four corners have drum brakes. Has new front windshield, original rear and rear quarter windows uninstalled. Door windows are gone. Comes with a couple odd/ends parts, but thats about it that is useable. I did not leave anything out here..... if I don't list it, it doesn't have it. This is basically a rolling project that is from the firewall back and comes with a questionable engine/tranny. Asking price is around $5,000. Any input would be awesome!!! Thanks Brian

It sounds like a fair foundation but some pics would be nice. The right person may pay
$5K, however, I agree with Brad and maybe $3K if the body panels will not require re-aligning IMO.

i would say take your 5g and save another 3-4 and find a running driving car with all the parts!!!! all those little missing items can add up fast!!!
sounds more like a shell than a project!!!
if it had cowl and roof and quarters replaced it was probably a pos to begin with and the owner knows it and is trying to recoop his mistake!!!

Brian,
Go to Ricks or Classic industries, start a shopping cart. Then start filling it up with what you think that car needs. Like glass, interior, etc Also, add what you think it would cost to get a paint job on it. That will give you a ballpark figure of what you will be in for in the future if you do decide to buy that car.

I'd have to go with Tony on this one... way too many unknowns. you'd be surprised just how much the stuff begins to add up...then you'd have to take into account how much you're going to farm out... the paint, etc.

...not to mention the fact that any of your predictions should probably be doubled, regarding what you think the car needs.

Brian: even if you go to Ricks or some other quality site, you're gonna miss a million things. I don't like the idea of getting a car that needed all the sheet metal replaced and still is so far from completion. I can only imagine what it looked like before. I agree with those guys that say put your $5,000 in the bank, save up and get a better car. There's lots of good deals out there. Just grab a local Auto trader and search CLASSIFED on this site (even if to only see what prices are out there). I paid 10k for a complete car, front-to-back, original tranny (needed replaced however), rear end, sheet metal and glass, basically no rust; straightest body a guy could want and I'm into it for... well, I'm affraid to even check to see what i'm into it for!

its not worth the price, you can put tons of money into it,and the car is only going to be worth so much,I found out the hard way,I put 28,000+ into my 67 and the guys here are telling me its only worth in the high teens.I wont build another thats for sure.
