Guys - I am going to have my front seats recovered by a local upholstery shop. I notice that the driver's side seat really squeaks as the car takes a bump or if you just simply bounce on the seat. Is this something a shop can easily fix if I point this out or is it a more extensive repair that I need to investigate before even giving the seats to the shop?

thanks...JD

JD,
The springs are clamped together in a few places by wide clips that are bent around them. They get rusty or corroded and start to squeak.
The clips can easily be taken off, clean up the springs and clips, lube everything and put them back on. I put some silicon grease inside each of mine.
The springs themselves will squeak against the frame where they're attached also. Metal-on-metal. Clean the areas of contact, lube..... good to go. My seats are silent.

The clips are called BW clips and they connect the springs. If you have the upholstery shop recover your seats, ask them to use the ones with the backing to stop the squeak.
But ya can't ask Sealy to use them to stop your bed from squeaking!:D I worked for Sealy Mattress for 2 years and never saw any with backing. I regularly had to check guns to make sure they were still crimping them tight. (you learn something new everyday)

Unless the upholstery shop will take the time, and you want to pay them to, you might get the shells back to recondition them before the new upholstery was put back on.

Maybe from the weather cause my car is a vert, but my seat frames were ugly. Rusty, broken in a couple places that needed welding, a couple places where I had to rivet patches in because the metal was too thin to weld, many broken springs, a real mess.
