idiots....looked like a nice 1959....been together all these years to get wrecked but bunch of insurance buttheads..

dont matter how safe these new cars are...one bad hit the right way and thats it!

I would have thought that 59 iron would knock the snot out of the new one.

All about crumple zones and the 59 was the first year for only a few that GM used that wierd X-frame type frame I belive. Make it a 58 Impala and i think the results might have been different on the 09 car. As for the drivers and what happens to them, I'll take a new car in a crash any day vs my 67 when it comes to safety.

Technology has come a long way. As Joe states, Its all about crumple zones.

Beautiful '59, but still didn't care for the fins, '60 fins were better looking.
Interesting to see 50 yrs of dust come from the '59.

Gotta agree with Joe. Even a Smartcar is safer.
I have the Camaro blown apart and sitting on stands getting ready for primer. I was standing there one night looking everything over and realized that I DO NOT want to get in an accident in it! There's nothing between me and the other cars bumper.... like sitting in a tin can. The subframe isn't going to absorb anything at all, and the sheet metal is just that.... a thin sheet metal skin stretched over thin air.

being that old orignal...its got a right to have some rust lol....

Pardon me. I work for the largest insurer in the country and without insurance you would never take your car out. Come on give us a little credit. Anyway, we give the IIHS tons of support, went there 2 years ago to watch them test a Buick. Man it was amazing.

??????? Do you mean tail lights? Weren't the fins the same on '59/'60?
Fin shape was different. '59 has round eyebrows; '60 has 'perk' eyebrows, they have a corner in them.

If it is 51 years for Impala, why not use an Impala verses a Malibu, unless the anniversary is for another subject?

Wow, all these years and I never noticed the difference! Thanks Everett.

I also wondered why they didn't use an Impala for the crash test.
