Beefing up a 327 engine and its getting dynoed this week ...I know the dyno number won't be actual horse at the rear but I have a powerglide in this car now. I've heard 2 things -- 1) get at least th-350 in it and 2) dragracers used powerglides for drag racing so it won't be a problem.

What have you guys found to be best ?

What is the intended purpose of the car????? Strictly drag racing....street/strip or strictly street driven???? If it's strictly drag raced....Powerglide is the better choice. Street or street/strip...I would use the TH-350. Jmo.

If you're asking if it will hold up behind your hottie, I wouldn't hesitate to use it if it's in good shape. It should hold. And if it's not in good shape, then you're not losing anything by blowing it up!

I don't think a TH350 would be much of an upgrade in durability, unless you're comparing a fresh 350 to a worn out PG.

A powerglide can indeed handle 440 hp, hust put a good cooler on it especially if you are putting a higher stall converter in it. ATI and others make alot of good parts for glides nowadays too.

If this is a street car you will like the t-350 much better as it has a significantly lower 1st gear which our streetcars like very much. I think most 'glides were a 1.78 or 1.82 first gear, THM's are 2.52 or close to it.
I think driving a PG on the street would be kind of irritating. Especially when trying to pass someone.
