Finally back today...... (sorry, it was a one time favor for me, I can't get them run regularly)

Some of you may remember the X66D80 Hugger Orange Camaro VIN 12437N661188 (odd vin) that had several motion mods on it.

Throughout the last few years several people have tried to buy it, but no one "knew" anything about it. :)

Joel was paid his fee, but refuses to give any paperwork one way or the other, ie, "Inconclusive"

Car was bought out of New York (actual), and was supposed to be a well known race car from the day (heresay).

Here's the latest update:

The NICB shows Curry Chevrolet from Hempstead NY (Long Island) as the originating dealer for this car. Dealer code 27079 (zone 27 dealer 079). Info from a 1968 Long Island Newsday ad per chevelles.com

There is still a Curry Chevrolet in Scarsdale NY, but they have a different zone/dealer code.
02163 (zone 02 dealer 163). Originated on 1970.

For some reason the Horsepower field is blank on the NICB instead of listing the HP??

Shipping date 6/26/1969

If anyone has any info on this dealer (or the car :) ) please let me know.

Thanks!

Rich

FYI, there was a curry Chevrolet in Yorktown heights ( northern westchester, NY) also all through the 60s to the 90s that was a sister dealer to the one on central ave in scarsdale which is still open as i pass it regularly

Holy crap,Hempstead LI is NOT to far from Baldwin Chevrolet,Dealership transfer!! Rich,Check your email sent you a Curry Chevrolet Dealership ad that was in a old Raceway Park Englishtown NJ program.Got it from Bob S who owns the original Salty Shaker 55 T bird with the Carman Rotonda 427 Chevy tunnel ram.Enjoy, check the name out in the ad,gotta find that guy!!!! Thanks for sending the NICB report, never saw one like that, most are verble and don't have all the info you have!!

I was real surprised to see a line for horsepower. On my report that line had all zero's. Has anyone seen other reports and are the horsepower lines populated?

Thanks for the ad.

Rich,

Other than the originating dealer, did the NICB really produce any helpful information that you didn't have before? I am not familiar with the information contained in them. I have the plain jane JL8 car that I would love to get some information on and I was wondering how hard I should go after the NICB. I know how hard they are to get.

Like I said above, there was a line for horsepower. If someone were researching a COPO then if it were a 69 Camaro VIN with 425hp, that would be useful.

I know I have heard that the NICB reports often have data omitted, and in some cases come back blank.

So, I would think if someone were looking to prove a Z28 or a L78 then that line (if in the report) would be the only other helpfull information.

It's not like GM of Canada where it lists all of the RPO's.

Is there another thread on this car? I searched but could not find it. I tried e-mailing NICB on my car no less than 6 times asking for just some insight or guidance on about how to get info on mine. Not even a response.

Wasn't this Camaro advertised as being sold out of Baldwin Auto?
I have not heard of an old NICB report showing HP so maybe it is a new style form?
I have not seen a 60's NICB that shows HP.
Yes it was advertised as such. Of course,a long shot would be a dealer transfer as both of these dealers were on Long Island.

At this point, all indications are of a car that was Motion Modded after the sale, either as a walk in or most likely the owner just bought motion parts from the shop and added them. With no proof, it really does not matter. It is just a cool car "day 2".

Being one VIN off from a COPO does not mean anything either.

There is a definate line for HP labeled "horsepower" and there are four "0000"'s populating that field. I have never seen another NICB report before, so I do not know if that field is normally there, and if so, if it is populated.

Hey Rich went to Google images and found some neat stuff, not sure if its true but it leads me to believe that Curry had a bunch of Dealerships.Looks like the Scarsdale location is still in Business could the Hempstead Location which is much closer to Baldwin LI been another Location Curry closed back in the day.Maybe this Hempstead location closed sometime after 1969,anybody know.Looks like the Curry family had Dealerships for over 50 years!

Called over there and they said that the Scarsdale location opened in 70 and the Hempstead location closed in late 69. Wonder if they could have dumped their inventory for the move?

Rich...I'm a Police Officer in the state of Mass...is it true that law enforcement can get NICB reports? If so, how would I go about it? Thanks
Basically, here's what I found out:
(this was just my experience, others may differ)

1. You have to have not just a police officer, but a sgt or above in the auto theft division who has access to the NICB database with a username and password.

2. You have to have a case number assigned to an active investigation on that vehicle.

3. As soon as they know you are working on a classic car, they (NICB) get squirrelly. Especially as soon as you ask for a written report.

4. They may call up the chain and make sure it is a legit request, so there is some risk if the unit CO is not in the loop.

I have been told by a few people here that hard copy NICB reports have become almost impossible to get. Most of the time all you can get is the info verbal or from the computer screen. I was lucky and got a written (printed) report on this car.

While I was working on this with the Lt in that division, we did see that there is a whole section for Insurance Agents to sign in? . I was wondering if anyone has tried that route?
