This is not for my Camaro, its for a 95 Chevy G20 van.

I am truly stumped with this. My origional Starter died (after 5 years of service). I tried going cheap by replacing it with two junk yard starters, and neither of them were any good.

I finally gathered up the good sense to go on and buy a BRAND NEW one for $145. Thing ran fine for abut a week. Now I'm back to the same old problem, only I have to get out and tap on the starter with a crowbar to get the blasted thing to work.

Sometimes it starts right up, and others I have to tap on it.

I checked the battery and its holding a full charge

I shouldn't have to be going through this with a Brand New starter right out of the Box.

Any recommendations will truly be appreciated :(
 
Who's brand new starter?

I agree with cleaning and tightening all the connection, maybe replace the pos lead to the starter just because, but... If you want a good starter, go to GM and buy a delco. If that's what you have, well back to the wires.
 
You could very well have a "new" starter that is bad out of the box.

If you still have your original starter, you could take to a starter shop and have it rebuilt, they usually use much better components than the bulk rebuilders. Look for a shop that has been around for a long time.

They are not hard to rebuild...basically new bushes/bearings and contacts if dont have a lath, fine emery and a lrather boot stap.
And ohm meter to check diodes
And if cant access a growler for the starte armeture, get it hot to touch in the oven and check for dry joints.
