I run an AFCO rad with a factory shroud and clutch fan. My 406 never runs hotter than 195* and thats in the summer when temps are at 100*

I use custom built radiators from Portell Radiator Shop in Desoto, Missouri. Great prices, quality parts and quick service. He made complete 4 row radiator, dual fan and shroud set ups for the Camaro and the Corvette. Smooth tops, perfect fit. All of the wiring, relays, fuses and sending units are included.

Chris, i used Dillon Radiator out of rodchester Min. Iwas a great looking Rad with a duel fan set with all the wireing and relays and a nice looking stainless steel shroud. it was in the 550.00 range and i have had for a year and about 7.000 miles and no issues what so ever. There Number is 888-988-1292 and they also have a web site dillonradiator.com. I hope this helps. I have a 520hp 406 drove all summer and on the power tour and always ran cool even in that nasty traffic on the tour. Good luck

I bought an aluminum radiator from Superior Radiator in Mount Clemens Michigan. I have been buying rads from them since 83, a total of 11 in all for various projects.

My recent purchase was for my 68 SS/RS with a 550hp small block I drove on the 09 Hot Rod Power Tour. The rad fit perfect with the correctly positioned mounting flanges and attached at the proper width/heights. I used a 16 lb. cap. The fan clutch is a GM spec, heavy duty with a 7 blade GM fan attached and a stock pump housing with a aftermarket impeller. It has a 180 thermo in it, It never went above 180.

The price was right @ just under $250.00.

I too have used many different configurations over the years on many different engine combos. Nothing beats a good aluminum radiator, high flow water pump, with a GM seven blade clutch fan set up. I don't care how big or how many electric fans you run. I currently run a 540 cubic inch with a griffin 2 row, edelbrock victor water pump, GM clutch seven blade fan with a 180 degree robertshaw stat. Combine it with a stock big block shroud and properly aligned fan to rad spacing it can not be beat. This set up even sitting in traffic and 100* weather never goes over 200*. I actually block off some air flow to the radiator when outside temps drop below 60* to help keep operating temps in the 170* to 180* range. Of course super high compression, timing, and cam specs will effect your operating temps. A couple tricks that helped is running a 60 / 40 mix of water to antifreeze. And a upper cowl block off panel between the header and cowl this redirects air into the radiator.

I just took out a 21" 3 core "stock replacement" radiator for an aluminum 21" 3 core with a 2500cfm electric fan... wife says I have to wait until Christmas

No idea how it's going to cool...but we'll see :) A buddy says his stays around 170-180
