The new Car Craft has an article about a '68 Camaro with an Offy Cross-Ram converted to EFI using the Holley 950 Commander TBI setup with an extra throttle body. Pretty cool. Glad someone finally did it.

IMHO, TO BE BLUNT, it ain't worth a sh-t b/c the OEM Cross-fire system's intake ports are way too small!!!

Please look one over real close and you will see that they are about half the size, (if that?), of the Cross-ram Z-28 intake manifolds ports!!

Sure it would be dandy on a 262, 265 or maybe even a 283, but NOT on a high winding Z- motor or anything larger!!!

If I am not mistaken, they almost give those old manifolds away at swap meets b/c they are so small AND thus NON-hy-po-!!!

Paul,
The system Neil is talking about uses an old Offy cross ram. The ports if anything are way too big. I have an old Edelbrock cross ram I am thinking about doing the same thing with, but I want to actually use port injectors and two 4bbl Holley air valves. The problem I am having is figuring where to find the room to put the injectors in. I think it would look cool and run great.

Unless I'm all messed up, the add posted by Skeletor said stock TBI crossram..

Now the stock Z-, Offy and E-brock crossrams are fine but as said generally too big, but the stock TBI was a POS, imho...

I thought that was what we were discussing down lower in this thread when I commented.. Sorry, my mistake..

In fact, I would love to have Force add individual injectors somehow to the top of any one of the three so that each injector would be located right at the end of each intake runners mouth!! I bet it would be one torquey intake, and wouldn't have the fuel/air distribution problems the stock, carb'ed ones always seemed to have or so guy's have said..

And you sure wouldn't have to worry about any hood clearance problems!!!

I had the same idea of converting an Offy crossram a while back. Had the manifold but could'nt decide where the best place for the injectors was. Finally sold it at a swap meet and bought a Hilborn unit to convert to EFI.

im not sure if that really is an actual gm crossfire manifold that was used on 82 and 84 vettes or if they are just reffering to it as a cross fire because of the offset throttle bodies. if that is a gm "crossfire" manifold then pdq67 is right, that wouldnt be a wise choice for a high performance small block.

yeah, dumb a** me looked over that part. but, maybe if you used an edelbrock or gm cross ram it could have some potential. im not sure about what kind of high rpm power it could make.i had a 90 chevy 1500 with the throtle body injection and after a chip, k&n induction kit, and flowmaster exhaust, it made tons of torque.

I have thought and thought on how to port the sucker to make it into a MORE hi-po intake and for the life of me, short of removing the tops of all the runners and increasing their heights, I can't see how to do it???

IMHO, they are cheap enough AND do have that WOW factor IF we can just up the flow rate so at least a 337" motor can breathe upstairs. AND I mean, 8,000+ rpm and 337"s!!!

Anybody have any idea's and I'm not talking about "extrude a hone" either b/c it's just to darn pricey imho!!

i dunno, id say anyones best bet would be to find a edelbrock or offy cross ram and go from there. as a former owner of a 84 corvette i can tell yu that the crossfire system has many short comings. the crossfire system was developed for the 82 camaro and was never supposed to be on a 350 but gm installed it because the tuned port system wasnt ready in time.

There are couple of articles on the web about guys modifying the crossfire manifold top to get more flow out of them. Lots of work involved and not worth all the effort IMO. Get the Offy manifold and twin TBI's and try that. But the other problem with the twin TBI setup GM used was fuel went to one TBI then to the other so I could see a pressure difference causing a problem unless you ran 2 lines to balance it. I like the Holley Stealth Ram EFI setup, looks like a tunnel ram with EFI on top.
