Guys,

I am by no means a COPO expert...but this is kinda wierd that a GM Canada COPO RS 69 camaro would only bring 137K.

I haven't heard of a RS COPO.....is this car real or....?

Looking forward to your dialogue :)

Was that COPO a 396? as all of you saw the same thing I did, A "RS" Copo. If it`s a BB car then this is automatically a 'SS car not a 'RS and would not have any other badges even with a RS RPO om the car...Nothing special about RS cars...they made thousands..Therefore did they sneak one over on the Auction for some unsuspecting sucker?.....

There certainly are RS COPO Camaros, I own one! Not very many though, mine is a Berger car, I believe they sold around six RS COPO's. Emmert,Frost and a few other dealers sold a very few also. Feel free to correct me, I believe by far, Berger sold the most RS's. I too, was surprised the one on B-J sold for so little. Go to the CRG site and in the COPO report, they confirm the RS COPO's.

Whats so unique about it to make it a COPO?... Nothing special about a RS option

The RS option did not make it a COPO, the 427/425hp L-72 engine did! Most 427 COPO Camaros were the standard, non RS bodies. But they absolutley did make a few with the RS option included also. Mine is also a double COPO with the 9737 sportscar option also. Almost all the Berger COPO Camaros were double COPO's.

I was wondering if it was real as well. The BJ listing says it has Canadian docs. I am guessing the price is in line since it is not a ZL1 and prices are down.

Summary: L72 RS COPO Camaro. 427cid/425hp, M22 4-speed close-ratio transmission, restored and highly optioned RS COPO. GM of Canada documents, power front disc brakes, power steering, Endura bumper, rosewood wheel, Rallye wheels, tinted glass and floor console.
Details: L72 RS COPO Camaro. Matching numbers 427cid/425hp, M22 4-speed close-ratio transmission. This is a restored and highly optioned COPO. Documented by GM of Canada. Registered with the COPO Connection. The "9561" optioned COPO Camaro needs little introduction to those in the Camaro world, but this highly optioned car is more unusual still. This car was delivered new with a host of very unusual options for a COPO. The Rallye Sport option, Endura bumper, Rallye wheels, and rosewood steering wheel are nearly never found on COPOs. This car also has power front disc brakes, power steering, tinted glass, Cowl Hood and floor console. The General Motors Technicians Guild chose this specific car to highlight for their year 2000. An original painting was commissioned at the time depicting the car entering a drive-in theatre, so popular in the 1960's. Collector's limited edition china plates and framed prints were specially created for guild members. One of each was provided to the car owner and they are included in the sale.

This price is extremely low - there has to be something about that car that we do not know and the bidders did know (rebody, fake docs, etc...) as a COPO w. Canada docs is not only one of the most desired of COPOs but also the one of the hardest to fake.

This could have a bad history to it like the Reggie Jackson #27 ZL1 that is a complete fake that sold for $290k - any other ZL1 should sell north of $500k easily. Any real and documented COPO should be well north of $200k so I am sure we will hear more about this one shortly.

As for the car being registered with the COPO Connection - anyone with true knowledge of COPOs would know that Ed completely dissolved the COPO connection and invalidated every COPO Connection certification. Anyone that refers to a car being registered with the COPO Connection is about 4 years behind the times and holding onto invalid credentials.

I'm wondering the same thing Todd, I'm not an expert on the who's who of car collecting, but I did not see any big hitters I know by sight, bidding on it.

Todd and Dana,

Thanks for the information and comments. I never knew about RS optioned COPOs, so I learned something new today and that is why I enjoy this site so much.

Style trim COPO cars let alone RS optioned COPOs are rare.
Regardless of GM of Canada docs and a description saying the car is a numbers matching car I would want someone who was there to comment.
COPO Connection docs have a negative connotation these days so I wouldn't even be bringing those up if it were me .
I just looked at a Z/28 last week that was a survivor with every major drive line component stamped/faked .

As we all know there have been plenty of fake cars roll through BJ.. remember the fake RS/Z that Pratte bought at Vegas that was built from cut out VINs and TT that were for sale on Ebay years earlier?

Canada doc car is good to have but you still have to do your homework.

The Canada documentation service does not check the car, just the documentation they have on file.

Unfortunately, if someone found a COPO 427 vin number, with Canada documentation, a car can be built.

I don't know this car and am not saying this car is real or fake, but if the history of the car is unknown, that may have held the bidding down on this car.
