hey guys, i am installing a 9 inch in my camaro and i have 2 center sections, one is a 3.89 traction loc and other is open, i would like to find some high gears like 2.56 for long trips, but i don't see any gears lower than 3.30 in summit, is there anyone who makes new gears around 2.56 or what ford cars came with high gears so i can pick up a set at a boneyard, as i won't use them a whole lot so i could get away with a used set, thanks alot
Jake

i have a center chunk out of a late 70's 1/2 ton ford truck that has 2.73 gears. a van i once had came with a gutless 351w and 2.56 or so POSI (traction lok- whatever)... couldn't even beat on the damn thing- even on gravel.

bret let me know on those gears, how many teeth on pinion and on ring gear? i am very interested, thanks alot for the help, would like some used gears below 2.73 like 2.56 or near, thanks again, anyone with some let me know
Jake

I was pretty close, 2.75 16 teeth on the pinion and 44 on the ring. Let me know if you don't turn up something better.

Are you planning on getting rid of a set of gears?

hey bret sounds good,2.75 isn't bad, i will try a couple junk yards but probaly won't turn anything up as they won't wanna part a 3rd member out, yes i will not need the set i take out of my other 3rd member they are 3.50 gears let me know if you are interested, 35 teeth ring/10 pinion, thanks alot
Jake

Let me know what you want for those 3.50 gears they would be about perfect, hopefully we can work something out-even if you don't want the 2.75's.

We should probably take this off the forum to e-mail, don't wanna bore everyone else

You can get a complete 9" center section here in Northern Cal for about $50. Do you have 28 spline or 31 spline axles? The trucks and vans after the mid-60's were all 31 spline, while the small sedans have 28 splines. There are a ton of 2.56, 2.75. and 3.00 ratios available.
