I have never attend a HAN, but I am in the process of filling out my application. Who is planning on going? Who has been there? What do you think is the best place to "show and shine" your car
Casino Area
Grand Sierra Resort
Downtown Sparks

Any "must do" events?

Hey Rick, you'll have a blast no matter where you go. you can actually park your car at a different venue every day. It's a lil' early, but I'm sure others who have been there the last few years will chime in. My wife and I have been going for the last three years, myself the last 8 years, and we have a great time. About 10 of us TC members got together this year and had lunch. It was nice to put a face to the names! Hopefully 2010 we'll have the camaro up there...finally got our number! I prefer the Grand Sierra. Others like to hang out right downtown on Virginia st. Either way it's a blast. I believe we'll be getting together again in 2010 for lunch and maybe a BBQ at Donner lake.

As mentioned you will have a blast. I used to stay at the Reno Hilton which is now the Grand Sierra. If I participate again I will not stay there, in my opinion they kind of ruined the parking lot as far as parking the classic cars. They now have too many vendors taking over the parking, so the hot rods are getting pushed to the side parking lot.

I wouldn't advise staying right downtown either, I've done that and traffic can be a pain getting to and from your hotel. Not to mention the bad element that tends to gather down there late night.

Ihave stayed in Boomtown as well, I probably wouldn't do that again either, only becasue you are too far from everything.

The best cruisng in my opinion is in Sparks. I would suggest staying either on the south end of the strip ie.. Peppermill or Atlantis. If not there Iwould look at something in Sparks like the Nugget. The Grand Sierra is not terrible and the show area is large, it's a hot spot which is both good and bad. If you want a good parking spot in the front lot you will have to end your cruising early and beat the crowd.

As far as must see stuff it's really hard to say, there are cars every where. The auction is cool to walk through and see what people are buying. The Cruise of Champions is nice to see, that's where selected cars are invited to cruise a parking lot, either at the Atlantis or Peppermill (I can't remember which one, help me out someone). The cars are top notch.

Other than that just get out there and drive your car allover town and meet a lot of very good people from all over the country.

I may even have to look at signing back up for 2010.

The best cruisng in my opinion is in Sparks. X2

That's where we were last year. Very on-looker friendly there.
Go up to Virginia City. Nice historic town up there. Take a train ride! There's a few things to do up there, but with HAN, everyone stays put!

I personally only spend maybe one day downtown as there is kind of a bad element that hangs out down there (i guess homeless type people) but as others have said Peppermill and Atlantis are hot spots and alot of fun, as well as Sparks...which is where I spend most of my time. The Grand Sierra is cool but it is home base for HAN so it does get crowded. Sparks is definately the best cruise as well.

HAN is a blast (as others have said) and you will not regret the experience.

I 've been going to HAN for 20 years. I've always stayed downtown , most recently @ the Silver Legacy. They let us valet our own cars. I like the covered parking especially after the hail storm last year. Getting to and from your hotel isn't hard if you know your way around. Regarding the bad element, the cops out number them. Lots of street people begging for $$$. They are harmless. Rick, I see you are up the road from me. Do you know Todd Whipple?

Where is a good place to stay that will give you peace of mind that your car is safe?

Thanks for the help.:boxing:

Gary,
You would have to be pretty unlucky to have your car stolen up there. Just take the normal precautions and you should be fine. There are cars worth lots of money all over the place up there. I always had the mindset of "that's why I have insurance" of course nobody wants their car stolen, but I refuse to be held hostage from having fun.

Most casinos have classic car parking. I always covered my car up at night (out of site out of mind). I also had a baby monitor that I used if I was staying someplace questionable. You can hear everything, works great. I would be surprised if any cars come up missing from any of the major casinos ie.. Nugget, Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra, Harrahs. There are attendants in most cases. I know the year I stayed at Harrahs, they had a floor of the parking garage reserved for clasic cars, they gave you a ticket when you parked and in order to remove your car you had to have the ticket to show/give to the attendant. The problem with Harrahs is it's right down town so you either need to get in early or stay out real late.

I've been going for the last 6 years and agree with everybody above (although I stay at Circus Circus downtown every year). I don't bring a car (from NC) so that may affect where you want to stay. One thing we enjoy that nobody mentioned is the Silver Auctions and we spend a few hours there a couple of the days.

We attend HAN every few years. I have brought out 3 of our cars from Ohio in the past years. Other years we fly out and back. We stay at my wife's cousins house. Last year we won $500. dollars and a a 3 night stay at the Atlantis Casino Resort for 2010. We were not planning to attend in 2010, but now we are. We have a 67 Camaro that needs restored, but will not make it to the show this year. We are planning to drive a 65 Impala wagon that needs finished before August.
Everything about this show is like nothing we have attended back here in Ohio. I look forward to the Auction, poker run and walk, show and shine at all the casinos, and probably my favotite is the swapmeet.
Sure would be nice to meet up with some of you guys in 2010.

I'll be up there at least a couple days Dayton

A lunch 'meet-up' sounds good!
We can start an RSVP in this thread :beers:

With the odd cold and crappie weather this spring things got off to a slow start - but since then we've been having a busy summer at the lake this year, out-of-town relatives using it (some up there now) and our kids having friends up - so I'm not sure I can find a good night to pull off a group lake BBQ  I'll let everyone know if that looks like it's gonna change.
You're always welcome for a ski/wakeboard ride - the line starts to form @6:00am
We'll be at a wedding for the 30/31st (when HAN starts), and then up for the rest of that week - I hope ... so I'll try to head over to Reno starting on Tue. for 3~4 (5, 6 ??? :) ) days - that's 'my' plan at least.
The 'misses' has friends coming up early that week, we're in the middle of getting the upstairs bath remodeled and kids (and friends) will be up again the following weekend ... so I'll be wanting to 'flee' to Reno as much as possible ;)

We'll be there Dayton. Maybe I'll get to see your car this year. We missed it last year. Went looking for it on Saturday and Strick told us you had already headed down the hill. Lunch this year for anyone? That was fun last year.
This year we'll be attending a baseball game on Thursday night. Reno Aces, I believe they're a farm club for the Diamondbacks.
Looking forward to getting out of here and up there for the week. Unfortunately, no car again. She's sitting in pieces getting ready for paint. She'll be painted by summer's end!! Now I'm going to get an earfull from Strick!

Ahhh, yes the BBQ at the lake. That would be cool, but if not, we'll have the lunch still. Same place for the lunch or something different? I'm easy, but don't tell my wife!! lol

Welllllll - I was talking to the 'misses' (but her aim is getting better) about a BBQ or meet-up a few weeks ago again - and got "the look" ...
along with the requisite ... 'we're gonna just be sooooo busy with the weddings, remodel, kids/grandkids and friends up here to get anything else orgainized this year, you should try for next year honey ...' spiel - so I didn't push it ... :pout:
Maybe we could try a quick afternoon/evening BBQ and BS-fest at the lake if anyone wants, then everyone could make it back to Reno before to late - (btw - I80 is still under construction @ the state-line ~ Verdi area - with only one lane for travel most of the time ... so, traffic has been 'iffy' at times on trips over there during the day) but I think a larger party would be hard tp pull-off this year ...
There's always cold drinks and :beers: in the coolers, so anyone can stop by if they'd like
If we're not there ... we'll be right back ... maybe :p
Just tell the neighbors you're friends of mine and they'll shake their heads and walk away :D

I fiqured I would hit HAN on Tuesday at earliest, so I'll stop by to find you as soon as I get there.
Royce 'may' try to get up a day or two also - he's still getting his schedule down with his new position.
Still don't have a "for sure" from any of the Steve-ssss :D
I think Gary was considering a day or two also
Still have your 530-518-5XXX number in my phone - PM if you need mine again.

Sort-of-a 'play it by ear' year maybe ...

Yea we're going, will be there on Tuesday and heading out on Thursday afternoon, but will be back up on Saturday morning until later that night. We're not going to have the Camaro again this year, we're close but no cigar... She's painted and now going back together, I just received the motor last week and still waiting for the clutch to come in, I plan on dropping the motor in one day during the HAN week.

Meeting for lunch sounds good, it was a lot of fun last year. The only day we can't make it is Friday.

I'd have to agree with the better setting, but how would you fit so many cars up there? Pops told me that he read in the paper there's talk about HAN moving to Long Beach, or starting in Long beach and ending up in Reno. Something about the city and money. Imagine that, money is involved.
We'll be up there Wednesday. Looking forward to it.

Hooked up and Cruised with Dayton last night - folks love his 69
We stopped and talked with Charlie ('clill') and watched folks try to figure out how he got a LS9 in a Camaro - before the ZR1 was even available ;)
Great show and good turnout

Will be back up on Friday - PM if lunch is on, Dayton and I are up for it

Just a quick update on HAN.
 Congratulations go out to Dayton for being selected "BEST In SHOW" with his 1969 Camaro for Friday :hurray:
Dayton recieved recognition for being a long time HAN participant (as well as a nice SWAG-Bag) for his efforts and is eligible for the overall HAN "Best Car in SHOW" title today (sat.).
Trust me, he had some serious competition for the title
(I've got a couple pictures, but for some reason they aren't uploading correctly ...)

It was nice to talk to Charlie again on Friday ... and see pictures of his new "Super Car" project he picked up at the show ;)

(as well as a nice SWAG-Bag)
The swag bag had $600 in casino chips that John and I quickly cashed in and then went and had dinner:yes:

Being one of the daily "Best of show" winners on Virginia St, I was in the finals for "Best of the Best" on Sat. Winner take all, $3500. I lost out to a beautiful 32 coupe that only does car shows and gets trailered all over the US from show to show.

My car gets driven. Evident by my cracked front carbon fiber front spoiler, and, my scraped 3" exhaust.

All the cars I was up against, either daily, and, for "Best of the Best", were all trailered to HAN. I was the only person that drove to HAN.

On my way home yesterday, I finally got to try out my 7 speed DSE wiper motor. 40 miles outside of Reno, I ran into a down pour.
