Hey guys im thinking about installing a 385 fast burn crate motor with a hot cam kit in a 69 ss. the car has a m21 tranny. the motor combo put out 428hp on the dyno on the hp weekly tv show. my question is what kind of 1/4 times should i expect to get out of this.

Yea, I'm with Mark on this one. I was going to originally say a 650 double pumper or a 750 with vaccum secondaries but with the flow of those fast burn heads, the 750 DP should work fine with decent gearing (3.73 or steeper).
A good starting point would be 38 degrees total timing all in by 2500 RPM. If your tires can hold it, I would try a 3000 RPM launch. Keep experimenting with this until you get the best 60 foot times and then go from there. You goal should be @ a 1.8 second 60 foot time. You PROBABLY will not get there with street tires (1.8 time 60 foot time that is).

someone else here has a zz4 in a 69? and ran a 12.7?with 4.11's.can't remember who it was.
now with the aka:zz5 i'll say 12.7's or better no problem ...once you get dialed in,and this will be on dot slicks,w/ 3.73 gears or better.

I have seen places such as Scoggin-Dickey, Go AutoCenter and Sallee Chevrolet offering the 385 Fast Burn crate engine with the LT4 Hot Cam already installed. They list them as dealer assembled ZZ430 "clones". The lowest price on one of these packages I've seen recently is $ 4325 at Go Auto Center. They have a web site and advertise in some publications, and are located in Texas. Sallee offers a very close ZZ430 "clone" including the milled insignia valve covers, aluminum water pump, Holley 750 Vac. sec., air cleaner, plug wires, looms, and starter but for a considerably higher $ 6195. Sallee has an extensive web site and offers many options on a lot of their crate engines.

Has anybody conslusively found out the header situation with these Fast Burn heads? I know there has been some concern with the D shaped exhaust ports. I think that shorties might be available, but I'd really prefer full length.
I'll be heading back to the U.S. next summer when my contract expires here in Malaysia, so its not urgent, but I'm trying to decide what I'll be dropping in my 69 SS/RS. Thanks.

Hey Lloyd, according to GM when tested on a 383 with 9.5-1 comp. ratio and a .540 lift roller cam, single plane intake manifold, and a 750cmf Holley carb., the fast burn heads produced 497hp at 5800rpm. Just some food for thought, might be a cheaper way to get heaps and gobs of extra hp.
