more ground clearance? Thats a tough order, as it is usually the headers that present a problem, not the sub. Only real way to fix the header issue is to either get different headers, or raise the engine (don't really want to do that as it would raise the center of gravity).

Another options is 1/2 height body mounts, but this can create problems with some transmissions.

As far as better ride-this can be interpretted many ways: Street ride, track/street track only, etc.

Many people with more knowledge than me would say that you can spend 1/2 as much $$ on upgrades to the stock sub and get the same or better benefit in handling than an aftermarket.

I bought shorty headers hoping to have better ground clearance but bottom of subframe still banged up a bit with just hotchkis springs. Sounds like moding the stock frame is a good way to go for streeters. Opinions on coilovers and chicane kit?

What about a better ride in the backend of the car? Linked coilovers better than leafs?

Bottom of subframe banged up? Camaro's are street cars, not of road vehicles! You need to travel on paved roads and keep it under 80 MPH.

But seriously, I put shorty headers on my car and now my tranny crossmember is preventing my exhaust from coming up farther. That's one of the next things on my list of "to do's".

Changing the rear suspension is not necessary, but it all depends upon what your trying to accomplish. I did not waste money on coil overs, just modified my springs a few times to get them to feel the way I prefer. I'm so used to changing them that I can take both out in less than 40 minutes.

It's been proven that a stock subframe can compete with any of the aftermarket subframes. Probably the most qualified car is the One Lap Camaro built by James Shipka and David Pozzi. I know for a fact that they would go with an aftermarket subframe in a minute if they had it to do all over again. Do you want to bolt it in and be done or fiddle with it forever? I have a DSE subframe in my car and it drives so nice. Tire width, rack and pinion steering, modern spindles, bearing packs, header clearance and the list goes on of why to do it. Is it a neccessity? No.. The easy way out with killer results? You bet.
