Just a thought. What happens if a group of enthusiasts at work start a club and have a show, or cruise day once a month. Would this organized activity cover you with the insurance company? Might be worth looking into.

I am self employed. My cell phone is my office. So in that reguard, if I have my cell phone with me while using my car technically I am driving it to work.

I have Hagerty and i dont recall specific about driving to work. Mannn now i'm gonna have to go read my policy.

x2 on HAGERTY

I have not had any issues with Hagerty. The only one is that you have a "Primary Car" that is not the classic you are insuring.

Freedom to enjoy your car

We believe cars are made to be driven. So our policy allows limited pleasure use with no fixed mileage limits. Whether it's a drive on a gorgeous summer day, a trip to the ice cream shop, attending club events or going to shows, you're covered. If you have specific questions about usage, especially if you own a newer vehicle (generally 1990 and newer), we're happy to discuss them with you.

I have Sneed for my Chevelle and they have no mileage or usage restrictions except you cant race and you must own another daily driver. So you can take it to work it just cant be your daily driver.
I'm also from Pa. and you better check the rules for classic cars because in Pa. the rules state that you can't take it to work or leave it in any mall parking lot. Even if your insurance doesn't have a problem with it ( which I doubt ) you could have your licence plate confiscated by PennDot.

Why would the state confiscate your plates if your car is parked in a mall parking lot?

I would venture to guess he's talking about historic plates issued by some states with provisions the vehicle only be used for parades & exhibitions with very limited use on public roadways...

Even so I think they would be hard pressed to prove you were not "in-route" and would be out of line to take action without proof...

This thread prompted me to call Hagerty Insurance.

After filling out all the forms online, a rep called me and asked a few questions. He reduced my quote by over 30% and my total yearly bill was barely over $200 !

I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.

Gents, if you are looking to not be limited, try Chubb Collector Car - they let you drive your car and understand you want to use it other than in a parade (seriously, who uses their car for parades only??..haha) My last Camaro was with them at $25k value and I was paying $225/yr for full covg in NY. Check it out: www.chubbcollectorcar.com

My 68 RS vert is coming out of the shop after a full resto so I'm looking to increase my coverage. I have had it insured with State Farm for 10 years now. My current policy is AGREED value of 7,000 and I drive it less than 2000 (or 2500) miles per year. For that I have been paying $48 every 6 months. So I called my agent and said I want to insure it for $30k at least. I asked her about STATED vs AGREED value and she wasn't that clear on it but she called the underwriter. The underwriter says he can insure it for about $28k with out an apraisal so if I want more than that I need an appraisal and let State Farm take a bunch of pics which I would want to do anyway. The agent says to insure it for $30k AGREED value my premiums will increase to $79 every 6 months.

Now me and the wife are both 61 and have been with SF for 20+ years with no claims or tickets etc. We have all our cars and house etc insured with them. Maybe all that makes a difference.

I also asked about how I can use it and she said any way I want as long as I stay under the mileage restrictions. I may have to adjust that once I start getting to drive it again!

Agents don't set the usage guidelines, the underwriters do. Unless you get it in writing from the underwriter you can't assume anything.

I haven't seen anyone mention 'Chrome' specialty car insurance? It stands for: Classic, Hot Rod, Replica, Original, Modified, Exotic. CHROME, get it? It's underwritten by American National Insurance Company. I had coverage with Hagerty for about 20 years and finally got a quote from my Am. Ntl. agent. It was about half that of Hagerty. I called Hagerty back thinking it was a mistake, nope that was their premium qoute. It is an Agreed Value policy and they don't require a appraisal below $25K coverage limit. 10,000 mile annual mileage, rollback flatbed towing, and you choose the repair facility. The best part for me is if they insure your home and other cars, after 3 years with no looses, you get back 25% of your premium, yearly. They accepted my '68 SS with a 572 and 5 speed with no problem. Might want to check it out.

Use our 'search' function and you will read tons of threads on insurance. Most state farm policies are NOT agreed value. In some states, the traditional companies allow it but most dont. State Farm insures everything I own, cars, toys, home, life, health etc... but NOT my camaro. Review the threads posted earlier and become more familar with 'agreed'. the fine print might say 'we agree to pay you....' but that is NOT an Agreed policy. They will also have the words ..'or find equal value comparables' and that is their "out". They will discount your car's value and you will NOT get the $35,000 or what ever you think you have coming. Ask the agent and underwriter... if my car is stolen tomorrow. will I get a check for $35,000 in a few weeks or not?. Im betting you will hear a different story then. Double check and check again, most agents dont know the collector car market and are only saying " I think its agreed value... see the word 'agree' in the policy? But then there are qualifiers after that and that's where you get the shaft.
In MOST states, State Farm and Allstate and Amer. Family etc. and the major home, life, normal auto. companies dont offer true Agreed Value policies.
