I posted the exact same question over on the CRG, but haven't got a definitive answer. From the gloss level on mine, it appears to be body color. My problem is that Ash Gold (exterior) and Ivy Gold (interior) are so close in color that the only thing I have to go on is the gloss.

For another point of reference, check out Lucas Restorations web site. All of their convertible restorations have body color windshield frames.

I have a 68 base model convertible. I have owned it since 1987 and it's never been restored. It looks like the bottom of the windshield frame is painted a flat black. On the upper part you can see where the factory did a half *** job of taping. You can see the tripoli turquoise on the upper part and on the inner part it looks like it has no paint. I hope these pics help.

That white overspray is primer that I sprayed back in 1988-89! I believe I am the first person to take off the chrome/stainless steel trim (whichever it was) from the windshield frame.

you want a definite answer?
Yes, I do.

Take a look at Tim's pictures. They show body color on the top of the windshield frame, but black on the area of the frame visible from inside the car. If Tim's car is original, then it shows that the frame wasn't entirely body color.

Tim-
Can you take a few pics of the insides of the frame sides and maybe a pic from a little further away looking up at the bottom of the top portion of the windshield frame?
Also, does the black paint look textured, like the paint on the top of the dash metal?

I would guess this part of my car is actually original. Here are some pics. This one is outside looking in.

This is inside looking out. You can see where the turquoise stops. It looks to be mostly unpainted except on the bottom above the clamp. It looks like the same black as the top of the windshield frame.

This is where the top of the windshield frame meets the side frame. The inside top frame appears to be painted flat black. I don't see any texture.

Again, the white primer was my fault. The other side doesn't look as obvious.

The bottom silver looking part is where I sandblasted previously.

Like Tony's, my 68 in LeMans blue with white top (U1) had the windshield frame in LeMans blue. When I had the header trim and glass out I could see some original blue paint as compared to the re-spray done a few years before I bought her. My car was originally medium blue interior, code 717 built 2nd week of June in Norwood.

Could Norwood vs. Van Nuys build be a difference ?
