Well, the legend of D. B. Cooper has surfaced again and it's always fascinated me. I was 7 years old, living in Pennsylvania when this happened in 1971. Can any of you people from the northwest elaborate (Al-BPOS, John-VINTAGE68, Sean-68rs406, Dennis-DJD, Royce-CamaroMan70, Steve-Dreamweaver, Gary,GaryL). I'm sure I can't remember you all, but I know there are quite a few of you guys from the great northwest. Cooper appeared to be the gentleman bandit, leaving all the hostages go free, and was never caught. I'm sure you guys from the northwest have some stories to tell especially in the years that followed.......................I'd really love to hear from real people like you guys.
What really happened????

the niece doesn't sound too credible. she says her uncle, DB Cooper, came home with her dad bragging about what they had pulled off and that they now had money to pay bills and were now rich. If I did this, last thing I'd do is go home and brag to my whole family. I don't think this story will go anywhere. remember about 5 years ago they supposably broke the Jimmy Hoffa mystery? nothing happened there either.

Story is definitely unique. Got these from an auction a few years back in Dallas. Do a search on Brian Ingram and when he found some of the money in 1980.... He basically sold some of the found money that was returned from him from the FBI to fund his childs college education. PCGS is one of the currency grading companies. I can't remember how many notes were found and how many pieces.. some was returned to Brian and I think the insurance company got half or something like that...

I was only 1 when it happened, but of course it is legend around here. I remember a hiker found a wad of cash out in the hills awhile back that was linked to DB, the speculation was since he jumped in the middle of nowhere in the hills, in a really nasty storm and at night, there was no way he made it but no body was ever found.

I was skeptical about his niece too, but apparently her Dad told her the story near the end of his life (I think?) and thats why she's just telling it now.
Apparently they have DNA from a clip on necktie he had on that night so I believe they will be able to determine if it's legit. It will be intersting to see how it unravels for sure!

Cool stories and pics. The niece said today that when she first heard the story between her father and uncle, she was eavesdropping. She has also since passed an FBI polygraph. The outdoor temperature was -7 degrees when DB jumped from the plane.

I just remember it being on the news a lot starting right about the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend in '71. I was 15 at the time and not really that interested in the story of the hijacking. DB Cooper hijacked a plane, demanded parachutes and $200,000 and once in the air jumped from the plane during a rainstorm into the wilderness in Oregon. Cooper was never found alive or dead and that created all the mystery. In 1980 deteriorated twenty-dollar bills were found and traced back to those given to Cooper.

Does anyone remember the old "Far Side" cartoon about DB Cooper? There's an old guy sleeping in a rocker on the front porch of his cabin. In the back yard is a large dog pen with a bunch of big dogs watching a guy under canopy floating down into the middle of 'em.The sign on the cabin reads "Ben and Vermas rottweiler farm" and the caption was "The untold ending of DB Cooper".Hey,ya never know.

Wikipedia has a pretty good write-up of the story:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._B._Cooper
I read that whole article and several others like it over the years. The one thing that I don't understand is why there is never ANY mention of the bomb in the investigation. The article goes into great detail of the events (especially the ransom money) but never mentions ANYTHING about the bomb. Where did it go? Was it left on the plane? Was it real? Did he take it with him? Am I missing something?

From what I can remember he took everything with him execpt his clip-on tie and some cigarette butts, also I think he left part of a note. He also drank from a glass but their were so many people handling the glass that they couldn't determine which one he used so they tested (finger printed back then) all the glasses on the plane and couldn't come up with any usuable prints... The books about DB are pretty interesting to read if you have the time. Don't hear much about the bomb or the chute since none were ever found, kind of sharpens the mystery.
