Has anyone else noticed that the repro line for the console oil pressure gauge has the wrong type of ferrules on the ends? One of the ferrules on my original line is chewed up from having to remove it with pliers (it was stuck - luckily the gauge is OK). I was going to simply install the ferrule from one end of the repro line, but noticed they were different. So, I found & purchased a NOS line. It actually looks like the repro line will not seal properly since the slits in the ferrule are in the area where the taper should seal against the gauge.

Also, the ferrules on the repro line come loose on the line, while the ferrules are compressed in place on the NOS line.

I used the repo line on my 67 and it sealed at the guage and on the engine just fine. I passed the tubing through the firewall without making another connection so I didn't have to worry about a leak in that area. To make it look correct, I drilled out my old firewall connector so I could pass the tubing through it. No one will know except everyone that reads this.

I looked at the ferrule type on what I purchased from Heartbeat and yep, it's the same as your repro Jeff. Dang it........ Probably the same supplier! Lot's of people (including me) obtain parts for their Camaro's via Paragon as they normally have excellent quality. Good catch Hatman:thumbsup:

Is the 67 line different? The 68-69 line passes through a rubber grommet in the firewall - there is not a connection at the firewall.

Now, that leads to another question: Is the rubber grommet at the firewall supposed to be slit to allow for installation of the line?

Also, my original line has a small metal band on it at the engine end. Is this normal? I guess I'll have to choose between moving the band from my original line to the NOS one, or trying to remove the fitting from one end of the NOS line and repair my original line. Has anyone tried to repair one end of an original line using fittings from a NOS or repro line?

As long as the brass has enough area removed so it can crimp and hold the line tight, it doesn't matter if the gap is bottom or top. In a later post you said you have a second band on the engine side? Any pictures?

The brass ferrule should crush down against the outside of the nylon line to seal between the ferrule and line. Then the male taper on the ferrule should seat & seal against the female taper on the gauge to form a seal. I can't see how ferrule can seal properly if the slits are in the tapered area.
I don't have any pics showing the band on the engine side. I'd snap one, but the car is at the body shop right now. The band appears to be fairly thin brass, about 3/16" wide, & has some numbers on it.

I have a update to this Ihad the line assy. from paragone sitting on my work bench when the question arose. this weekend I decided to put it on because my car would seep a little from the fitting off of the block. After pulling the line out After putting a fish wire on the line I found The on from paragon to be a few inches shorter but I pulled the new on into place & went to put the end on the gauge & found that there is no way the fitting on the line will work with the one on the gauge. so now my options are put the old end on the gauge& put a union on the gauge end ' or pullthe old one bak through & put the union on the sender end. I will probablly do the first one because the union won't be seen under the gauges. My ? is why can't the proper line be made. P.s. I already tried to just take the fitting off of the line on a different one from from paragone & failed miserably .

Will, why not call Paragon tomorrow and see what they have to say. Surely what you have run into they have heard before so they may have an answer. Paragon has always had good people to assist when I've called in the past.
Good luck,

I have the same question. For a 68 Camaro, how is the oil line supposed to be threaded through the grommet?

Hey guys, here is a good post to look at on the oil line and fittings for the 68 /69 console gauges. I haven't installed my new set up yet, so I can't say for sure there would be any issues but according to this thread it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Tory, missed you at Spring Carlisle!
Gary's post is correct as that CRG thread was very informative. Also, just placed info in my build thread concerning parts and what can be done utilizing a Heartbeat fitting.

To answer you question if using some of the aftermarket parts, you have to carefully take out the brass insert (yes, it can be taken out), slip the other parts off the line, route the line, place the parts back on the line and re-insert the oil line internal part, or take out the grommet, slice or cut into the grommet with a new razor blade to the center, and insert over the tube. Slice is not seen if placed on bottom and once installed in firewall.

Hi Chick,
I installed a NOS Oil Line back in 1988. Should I just slice the grommet and slip it over the line? How was it done at the Factory? I am surprised that the oil line didn't have a replacement grommet already installed.
I am sorry I missed you at Carlisle. I will see you in the Fall.
