The Hillsborough Concours d'Elegance is the longest continual running concours in the country. Nice variety of cars . I entered my Camaro and we were given 3rd in the Muscle Car Class.

This 66 Olds 442 vert came in second and was a very nice car

The Class Winner was this 66 Shelby GT350H . In my estimation a car that did not even deserve to be in the top three... I guess that signed glove box sealed the deal.

Nice fit and finish on that rear deck lid

This 1965 GTO was bought by a 16 year old kid in 1965. His father co-signed on a $90 a month loan. Same guy owns it today and his father who co-signed 46 years ago showed up to the show... I would have had no problem with this car taking first place. It was gorgeous.

There was a 70 Z and a 66 Hemi Charger that were also more than worthy of a podium and a very cool AMX

Van...
Super nice pics there ! Its just too bad that the judges do have a bias to a certain type of car and not judge the car on its merits but on their like/dislike for a given model. We all know what you have done to your car and how you only wanted original parts. Judges don't care about that if they are partial to some other car there . Its sad but that seems it is the way the shows go.

I gave up going to shows 7 years ago when there were 4 first generation Camaros . A red 68, a black 67, a blue 69 vert and my car. The red 68 took first and deserved it. The black 67 took second, was dirty, had cob webs from the bumper to the body, dirty engine compartment, interior and dirty tires and wheels. The 69 convertible had faded primer spotted baby blue paint, ripped seats and top along with dirty engine compartment, dirty rug and mats and tires and wheel covers. I spent 3 hours cleaning and detailing my car and didn't even get anything. Last show for me!

Thanks for the photos.

Too bad a rent a car won, one word guys...Politics.You definitely had them outclassed.
What happened to the other rims Van?

Lookin' good Mr Tibbs..what a beauty!

That 442 won 2nd place last year- I think he and I both owned our cars for 35 years which helped with the judges, a "real" Cobra took first, I got third.

Glad I stayed home this year!.... I did the Mogulaire Wente show this year.

Bud owns the AMX (he has two) and was at the San Mateo Car Crazy show -

Congratulations.....again!

Van a 3rd is respectable, congratulations! You mentioned "fit and finish" on the Mustang and I'd like to comment. "Councours" judging like any other is subjective but from what I have seen with friends cars and being a little involved with the Palo Alto Councours a couple years ago, the judges really like un-restored survivor cars. The are the easiest to judge, the one that looks the nicest overall tend to stand out! Then when it comes to restored cars they tend to prefer to see some factory imperfections, "fit and finish" come to mind. Most Councours judges couldn't tell a reproduction part from an NOS or restored original part for that matter and typically can't identify what's correct or not. To make up for lack of knowledge (not a put down, look at the various cars in your class and show me an expert in all of them) they tend to look for visual signs like an over restored car and I say over restored only in the sense of how it came from the factory. Afordable American cars are known for a bit more tollerence in panel fit and door gaps and Muscle Cars fall right into that generalization.

My friends T-bird is not only a very rare one but was restored by some guy that is looked on as a god among t-bird collectors. It's flawless, I've seen it up close! It placed 2nd in class at Palo Alto (I can't imagine 1st place being nicer) but this past weekend at the T-Bird Convention in Omaha won Gold Class and was awarded the Excellence of Authenticity for the show.

Every show's different! Again congratulations, it's a beautiful car!

Thanks for the support guys. It was a great place to show the first time.
Some thoughts...

I was ok with third for our first time out given our circumstances.

The XT/red rims with "poverty" caps are flawless but due to a miscommunication they did not make it out with the car so I had an XT for a spare with the original Tiger Paw and YJ rally's on the car with repro Goodyear’s. I did not expect to show the car with the YJ's and did not have any trim rings. I used the Derby Caps from one of my other cars. Very nice originals but not show quality and the only beauty rings I could come up with were decent driver quality with some dings and scrapes. One of our taillights stopped working ... so there were some issues that certainly hurt us with judging but there often items that need some adjusting and I thought with some of the nice cars there that we wouldn't even place.
I let my son load the car, set it up and handle the judges so he was a little apprehensive when they tried to tell him the our X44 car should have "chrome on the rain gutters" ... I didn’t show up till after judging so I wasn’t there to educate the judges about the fine points of Style Trim but I am proud of how my son handled the whole show from loading the car to bringing it home and everything in between.

I feel the 65 GTO should have been on the podium and the 66 Hemi Charger was very nice too.

The GT350H was a restoration and was a nice car but the rear panel fit so bad it was a joke.

This show used to be held on the grounds of the elementary and Jr. High school I attended as a kid and to tell you the truth the jury is out with me what was a better venue/vib .... Still the weather was perfect and we had a great time. I hung out with my son and a bunch of his friends showed up to support him and it was very cool. To enter the car was 50 dollars and that included two breakfasts and two lunches in the Pavillion so I think it was a pretty good deal from that stand point and even with a trailer we were loaded and out of there in about 30 min so nice access.

On a side note when the Camaro ran across the awards ramp it was described as a 69 Camaro and that was it, about 20 seconds and move along… the 442 was talked about for a while about how special it was and the GT350H was raved about, it’s power and rarity… the COPO has more HP and even if you want to say they made a 1000 they built 1000 350H of which 90% were auto cars like the subject and in total Ford built 2400 GT350’s for 1966. So it is certainly not as rare. I think with Carol Shelby out there pumping products and signing glove boxes people get real excited when they see a Shelby .. I will admit it, I kinda do :)

Wow - Van I wish Sharon and I had gone to see the car up close but they charge spectator's $25 each!

Its a classy gig Dennis ! :)

Next year enter your car for 50 bucks. That gets you two tickets, breakfast and entry to the Pavillion including lunch and a program. Not a bad deal.

I will say that there were a lot of incredible cars there. Mozart brought out some of his cars including one of his Bugatti's.

If you have ever seen that awesome collection of cars on Van Ness in the City those belong to the Academy of Art and they brought some of their cars too. We should look into doing a club cruise to the city and a tour.

I could have always brought you in the trunk of my car..... :D

Amazing car. You have every right to be proud. I think Kevin (SixtyAte) must have been going to the same shows I used to go to. My experience was even worse. We had a local show here in NH a few years ago and I entered the 68 Firebird 400 convertible I owned at the time in the restored muscle car class. The kick with this show was that they had gotten the bright idea to have the car owners be the judges only you couldn't be a judge in your own class. They also asked us as we drove in what class we wanted to be in rather than having any eligibility rules. That alone is a recipe for disaster. The owners of the modified class judged ours etc. Well I took second place which I'm fine with since there were several really nicely restored "correct" cars. What pissed me off and stopped me from doing shows was that I got beat by a 70 Chevelle that was tubbed & had a blower sticking through the hood... Third went to a good friend of mine who has owned his 69 Camaro SS Convertible since high school and to be honest his car was way nicer than mine. I think they picked my bird simply because you don't see alot of them.

Now that's too funny...l:)l:)l:)

Van...that 2-tone Bugatti was incredible. Also, the silver 'vette. Now that's a car show that Lisa and I would appreciate. For some reason, she doesn't like to sit in a parking lot for 10 hours :)

By the way, your Camaro looks great....congraulations. Did you sell your burnished brown Z-28? Just wondering. My buddy Rich and me are planning to go to Chicago to the Corvette show. I couldn't make it last year and Rich said it was awesome.

The Bugatti was gorgeous! The silver 63 Split window took 2nd in class.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words on the Camaro. My buddy Stan who did the work ( a little help from me here and there) deserves the credit.

I do not have a Burnished brown Z but I think you are talking about my RS Z . I never say never but I don't think I would ever sell that Z

Sorry Van....got you confused with another TC member--I think it's Chevyshowman who has the burnished Z. I think he had it for sale for a good while and had it posted on TC, too. But I haven't seen Chevyshowman for a long time on TC.

Be great if you could post some pics of your RS Z-28--love to see it. Casey
