There is a car out here being represented as a true Z28 w/ crossram... I thought I would ask the experts, what do you make of the ID below.. I am having some pics sent and will post once received.

Lemans Blue, Std Black interior V8 coupe assembled the 4th week of Apr 1969... The VIN and the Trim Tag may not match but I'm not an expert on this. The last VIN published for month end April is 530155 with no cars produced in May which makes the VIN a June number. Perhaps someone more in the know on this will post an explanation.

No way to tell if the car is a Z/28 from the VIN or cowl tag being an LA car... Also my understanding is there were no factory crossram cars, the parts were dealer installed.
 
The car should still be listed by one of the "Classic" dealers in Santa Clara ;)
Last pricing was @mid $40k range ...

Info from last ad;
"... lemans blue with black stripes. the car was completely restored and has less than 200 miles on it. It has been restored to exact z-28 specs. the crossram is not the original.It is the period correct offy cross ram intake. The car has headers. everything has been rebuilt or replaced with nos parts. great pain was taken to get the car back to or as close to original. has black plates. 4speed, 12 bolt. Immaculate car. radio delete. ..."

I would make sure someone inspects the vehicle very carefully before buying it as a "Z".

I have some additional info and PICS!:

- total miles 125K
- rebuilt engine ??? miles ago
- Crossram in not original to car ( is there only one crossram or is there after market available?)
- CA Black Plate car
- I have requested a pic of the block deck, tachometer, rear housing, transmission... anything else?
- Interior looks original with tilt wheel
- Hood looks to be fiberglass... steel was factory correct?

la went on strike April 19th 1969, this car would have been sitting on the line at that time, and not finished until June, hense the VIN number later than the last reported April VIN. Plant only reopened to finish the roughly 1000 Camaros (amongst Chevrolets, Impalas, Firebirds etc) that were actually on the line the day the strike starte, and had been sitting there for 2 months in various states of construction. After those cars were done, the plant shutdown and retooled for the 70 model year cars.

No fiberglass hoods from the factory, can't see any evidence of it ever having the cowl induction hardware for a steel hood, master cylinder is wrong, valve covers are not GM. Transmission cable looks like its routed over to where a non muncie transmission would go thru the firewall (down near the fuse block) Its definately run wrong shouldn't go under the tranny. Shifter knob shouldn't have the shift pattern on it if it came with a console. May actually be a Z28, but the seller would have to prove it to me.

Get some pictures of the front brake lines, behind the a-arms.
 
Last time I looked at it I was not trying to determine if it was 'real' - prospective buyer didn't care ...
But, if it was it has been maintained and "restored" with many non-original "Z' parts ;)
As I stated - "IF" you are looking for a 'real' "Z", then make sure you or the inspector does their homework on this one.

There were several different brands and styles of "Cross Ram" manifolds offered for small blocks - this is one of those.
Hoods were available from both GM and the aftermarket in Fiberglass for the crossram intake set-ups.
The factory hoods came with a pad for the original latch system AND drilled for Hood Pins - I don't remember this vehicle having hood pins when I looked at it ...

Some of the aftermarket hoods also had a pad for mounting the original latch, but did not have the holes for pins drilled from factory.

After looking at the pics in detail I figure this car has not been completly restored, just looks too worn out. I am amayzed at the info that comes from this site! I did request extra pics including brakeline. I think they will not respond this time. My feel is that it is a real Z but like mentioned above lots of "real" parts are missing... Thanks!

I checked out that car and took some pictures when I was "documenting" a 68 Z/28 they had in there. I was thinking of taking a bunch of pictures of the numbers, etc. for they guys. But lost interest when I noticed a few thing wrong...
