Don't be surprised if you pay between $34,000 and $44,000 for a matching numbers big block convertible. The value is + or - condition. If it needs work like body-paint, its worth the lower amount. Hey, nice find !!

See Ken I told you not to give up on her. How did you find her?

I would say it is safe to bet you will pay a lot more then you got for her when you sold her.

I would say prepare yourself for starting in the highr 40's low 50's and going up to the 70's for her, more if she is in better condition then when you let her go.

A lot will depend on the condition of the car and how much off original she is, and how YOU feel about that.

How motivated the current owner is to part with her.

How interested you are in the deal may also inflate the price for some folks who want to take advantage of your emotional attachment to her.

I purchased my 1969 RS/SS 350ci/300hp convertible loaded with many nice factory options mentioned in my signature in 1994/the same time you were selling yours. I drove and enjoyed it for many years then decided to do a complete frame-off rotisserie restoration. At the same time my restorer called to tell me it was ready to be picked up he also mentioned that a good friend of his had kept up with the restoration and kindly offered $65k + not to come get it. Well being the camaro nut i am i kindly declined the offer/went and paid my bill and brought it home. I work hard every day and make money but we all know these cars are very hard to come across and don't come around very often. With that said if i were you i would try very hard to get that car back. The above estimates depending on the condition are probably in the ballpark. Good luck getting her back!! People OD on drugs everyday, As you can tell I OD on first generation camaro's!!

Team Camaro,

Thanks for all the support... I was shaking for an hour after I got the call this morning. How did I find her?: We'll have to say that it was a true partnership of 1st gen camaro and new 5th gen camaro buffs. I got all the technical expertise and suggestions from Team Camaro and located the general area thru MNVTIS database mentioned right here. (last week) and then I applied a very popular 5th gen site ( I have the 2011 version "hardtop" hotrod ) and am a member there as well.... So good technical info combined with a huge 5th gen National fanbase got it done. Once I knew the area to look it took less than 24hrs to locate and confirm the Owner. ( I did make a small payment to an investigator) Now the trickey part: I spoke with his secretary this afternoon, explained who I was and why I was calling and she laughed out loud and could not believe it... she confirmed ownership and promised he would get the msg tomorrow. So I do not know if he is even willing to part with her and if so what price. The numbers above represent the values I had researched through actual "auction" and "regular" sales. My wife never wanted me to sell her in the first place ... so she is firmily embedded on my side. I am not a millionare and will only be able to pay so much but am with in the estimates... so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Here is a fun fact. The car (Bought for my Mom's b-day "June of 69") is currently 19 miles from where she grew up as a child ..... I will let all know how this trilogy turns out. "if it is meant to be"... I'll have ol betsy back by next week.
Thanks again for all your help! / Ken

Good Luck but beware...

You are a sellers dream come true. A previous owner with sentimental attachment looking to buy a car that's not for sale.

If I were the owner I'd be asking you what you are offering then I'd counter with a number substantially over the realistic current value.

My advise is to decide on a max price and stick to it. (like going to an auction) don't get involved emotionally and be prepared to walk.

Quite often a guy will get a call a couple weeks after "walking" seeing if your offer is still good.:beers:

X2! Don't let him juice you, assuming he's even willing to sell!

Ken
Why do think the secretary laughed?

Could it be because that current owner is a Camaro nut and that is all he ever talks about? That would make it very expensive!

In this situation if you wanna buy the car best advice is to have a buddy call and feel the guy out 1st. Say hey I heard you had a ....and I have a friend that is looking for one (NOT IT) and go from there.

Re: UPDATE - CAMARO IN PROCESS OF COMING BACK HOME!! :)

I am blessed to have found her after all these years, and to find a current owner that really is an excellent human being (both morally and ethically)and the bonus? He has only used her for Parades and Shows the past 11yrs..... and now is willing to sell back to me. ( I still can't believe it). Price has been determined, (there was no negoiation... and I was not taken to the cleaners), waiting on the bank transfers, enclosed transportation is set up, and if I am lucky I will have her back in two or three weeks!! I will post pics once I have her back in my possession...:hurray:

Ken,

Great ending to a great story! I did the same for my 1966 Mailbu however found out that its been crushed. Nice to see your Camaro is intact and will be virtually as it was the day you sold it
