For the '68 model, what direction does the A-Arm staples go? From the engine compartment out or from the outside in? Hope this question is clear.

I used stainless wire, and matched to the old holes. Located the splash and marked and drilled the material, making the install easier. If you don't have original inner fenders, you should know that the staples do not follow the curve of the opening. I guess it was too hard for the guy to keep turning the inner fender as he fed it through the stapling machine, so the staples are almost parallel to each other.

Assuming your inner fenders already have the holes? If so, I just used a roll of galvanized wire and cut / bent the staples myself. I did trial and error to bend one just right and then used it as a template in a pair of pliers bending the ends with a good set of needle nose pliers to match the template. The ones that came with the inner flaps were too hard to bend and push through the holes. If you cut the ends of your wire with a sharp angle they will push through the flap material fairly easily so you don't have to drill holes in the flaps. If you don't cut them like this it will be a royal PITA to get the staples through the flap.

Is a 69 OK? Camera is ready.

Yes, the factory used carbon steel staples. If you want it to rust, use carbon steel. If you want it to look "showroom fresh" use stainless. I chose the latter.
Just be sure of your type of restoration. Is it for show judging or for a daily driver.

For a daily driver, I beleive the stainless would indeed be the way to go.

For a true, original restoration, I believe Scott is right in his answer and link to the other thread.
