great im off thursdays, fridays and are home on the weekends after 830am. if you want to put some mileage on the car feel free it would be nice to see a running camaro in the driveway again lol let me know what you want to do and we can set something up
Very cool, Thanks Steven, I'll pm you my number.:beers:

Don't know if its occurred to you but most paint jobbers can mix and put paint in rattle cans. Both color and clear and you can do it your self for about $20 a can. I did a set of steel wheels a couple of years ago and they turned out great. I did have to rub them out tho to get the best gloss. They would have worked as is but I'm just anal.

I did not know that. how well does it spray out of the can? is it a typical rattle can head? i would still rather shoot thru a gun tho

here is the spoiler all straight colored and cleared. it needs a cut and buff but a buffer i do not have.

thank you. what bothers me is that everything was dust free, i tacked between every coat and still ended up with garbage in the clear. i hope it does buff out. some pieces you can see and feel in the clear. we will see. i will have no problem re clearing after any wet sanding if needed.

Steve,

It looks AWESOME, I can't thank you enough for hooking me up, I owe you big time. I can cut and buff it no problem.

Can't wait to put it on, I can pick it up wherever is easiest for you.

Your welcome! Like I said there is some debris in the clear that need to be sanded out. If need be after sanding I can reclear it. I did put about 5 coats on so there should be plenty to get it all out. Tomorrow I'm gonna be busy installing a 240v line for a friend then I have to go to work so maybe Saturday morning we can meet or I can drop it off by you

Black is the cheapest paint you can buy. Get a pint and the hardner and reducer should not be that much. When I painted mine, with stripes, I did not need to wet sand and buff, it came out smooth. Buffing the spoiler will take the most care due to the curves if necessary. I applied 5 coats of PPG Concept 2002, tac dry between coats and the flow was good enough not to have to sand and buff. You could just about buy a gun and compressor on ebay or Harbor for $400. I bought a pre painted spoiler for my STS for $129 from a company on line. . . free shipping! Have fun. . . .I think everything costs too much and I really shop aroung for the best prices. When I restored my first 69 in 1978 they wanted $2800 to strip and paint on a RSSS vert I paid $2100 for. I bought a compressor, gun and supplies and did it myself. Even though I have owned 32 Camaros since, I still have that first Camaro and the paint has held up just fine. Just an old guy talkin!

I can see why it would cost so much. It was a lot of work sanding especially because of the steep curve on one side but once I got to the color/clear stage it was smooth sailing except for some trash in the clear

I am no pro, I don't paint but I stayed a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Your correct prepping can be very time consuming. It's a known fact from pro's to those that stayed at Holiday Inn Express last night that prep is 90% of the job. I think you might get nice job with sub par materials but your not going to get longevity or in your case the chance to fix problems easily IE trash in the clear.

I am sure that if you looked long enough the job could have been done for cheap by shop just wanting the work.

My spoiler needed a ton of work to have it look good. The material it's made from and mold they use just basically sucks. I have seen them painted and not prepped well and you can tell, I wanted mine to look good because I have a very bright color and the spoiler is major part of the rear of the Camaro. In my opinion they have to look good.

People can say what they please about the cost, I know I have at least 3 hours of prep time in mine plus materials to do the job and then paint on top of that. Body/paint guy was working for $65.00 per hour and was spraying a fill type prime as he worked to make sure it was smooth and strait. It all takes time and $$$ if you want it nice and don't do this type of work yourself.....all this is just my opinion though!!

BTW: The paint on mine looks just as good in the places you can't see and under the 1/4 over hangs as it does on the top.....to do that it's all prep, time and $$.

Many thanks to Steven for hooking me up and putting in the time on this, it came out awesome. after all the block sanding and sanding and more sanding, then painting and wet sanding and buffing, polishing I can see why it costs so much to paint things. Very labor intensive.
I wet sanded it, buffed and polished it and was wondering how much time should pass before I seal it with a coat of wax.

Here are a few pics of the finished and mounted spoiler:

Thanks again Steve.

WOW! good job with the buffing it looks really good now!
i would wait a few weeks before waxing just to make sure the spoiler is fully cured. a coat of wax now will prevent the layers of paint from being able to breathe and may cause lifting, bubbling. the polishing will be enough for now or you can go over it with a hand glaze
