"Wedge" shaped spacer? Column/brake pedal assembly bracket?? Where?

I can't figure out where this thing goes..

If a picture is needed let me know and I'll upload/post or later end up doing it anyway.

It's a spacer that is shaped like a wedge and it went somewhere in between the steering column bracket/automatic brake pedal assembly bracket or up in there somewhere I'm almost sure.

Thank you,

Donnie

Steering column, passenger side. There are two studs coming down that go through the mount on the column. The one closest to the firewall gets the wedge. Fat side toward the firewall.

The Cradle that supports the column to the dash has three(3) nuts to fasten it to rods from above.
The wedge goes above the column cradle bracket and onto the rear support threaded rod - that passes through the brake support bracket - while installing the cradle bracket assembly.
It spaces and aligns the two parts angles to eliminate any stress from alignment.
The factory used a special little retainer to hold it there (looks like a thin plastic washer) during assembly.

Guess I should have told you - that if you loosely install the two(2) front nuts on the cradle you can let it hang down in the rear while you install the wedge and then install the last nut
Have fun hanging up-side-down under there ... :p

Yeah and remember to install the foam gasket thing first if the column has been out.

One more thing (at least) If you're not 21 anymore, consider removing the drivers seat. Only four bolts. But yours sounds like it's already out.

I know you said you already have it installed but I am attaching a couple of reference pictures anyhow.

In that first picture what is that relay for? Mine is missing that and it may explain my "extra" connector. Looks like the connector is purple and pink wires?

What is that "wedge" for anyway??

Glad you got her done

And thanks for the photo Dave - I've normally only used the 'Helen Keller' method of locating them - not sure I've ever actually 'seen' it

What is that "wedge" for anyway??
If you (or someone you're fixing their car for) has left it out - there is a noticeable tension on the cradle bracket from the rear mount being a little shorter than the from two. If you loosen it 1st the rear of the bracket will spring down a little if the wedge is missing.
I would imagine that's why GM installed them ...
Now ... if that is 'by design' or was a 'whoopsie' fix is  to me ;)
