I have a BBC with a summit G3606 pan:

I bought the moroso 25970 adjustable tube: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-25970/

I've found out that the dipstick tube when adjusted DOWN all the way still puts the full mark what I think is too high but I'm not sure.

What is the ideal level to set the full mark at? Should it be where the weld line is or should it be an inch lower? I always check my oil in the morning with a cold engine.

I'm definitely NOT satisfied with the fill to capacity answer. What I really want to know is how much oil a fully pressurized gen6 BBC removes from the pan and what the ideal level should be in the running engine. My pan has a trap door, baffle and windage screen. Obviously the running engine oil level should never be as high as the windage screen, but NOT running, should that level be AT or slightly ABOVE the windage screen? What I want is maximum oil level that won't get wrapped up in the #7 and #8 crankshaft throws.

The problem is, I'm having my somewhat mechanically inclined girlfriend set my dipstick height before I get there (currently posted across the country, and need to get a couple things done on the truck before I visit her and then drive the truck back to where I am now)

I must be missing something here. Its a 6 quart pan. Put six quarts in it and add another 1/2 quart for the oil filter. Run it, then let it sit overnight. Mount dipstick and mark it where the oil line is. Oil that is in filter is what is always in the filter, right. So you should have 6 quarts in the pan which means its full which is were you mark the stick. I don't think there's a hole in my logic but somebody can point it out if there is.

I have to agree, just put in whatever the pan calls for, plus your filter (be in 1/2 quart, 1 quart, or whatever), see where the oil level sets on your dipstick and then mark it. Can't really get much simpler than that

Sometimes people get so caught up with over analyzing things, that they forget about the simple solution:beers:

Why couldn't you just prefill the oil filter before you screw it on, then put the 6 qts into the pan, but don't start the motor. then after it sets overnight or whatever, mark the dipstick as full, and not have to worry about exactly how much oil your filter holds. Then just top it off if needed afterwards. You wouldn't be down much anyway, I wouldn't think.
RJdon't forget to add more oil to bring it up to the new full mark you made. By doing it this way, I would thik you would know exactly that you marked the dipstick at the 6 quart mark, regardless of the amout the oil filter holds. Filters vary in size, and I don't think I've ever seen one say exactly how much they hold. Maybe I'm wrong.
