Hello all,

I've been looking at multiple Camaros across the country and keep coming back to this one. Did any 1969 X22 RS/SS come with the cowl induction hood? I'm finding information here and there (wiki) that these cars came with the standard fender stripe unless a Z28 optioned stripe was ordered? But I'm not finding much about the cowl hood option.

Cowl Tag: ST69 12437 NOR105574 BDY
TR711 69 69 PNT
08D X22

From what little I know it is a 69 built at Norwood with standard black interior, Cortez Silver (no vinyl top), 396 car. I'm unsure about the 08D options. Only info I'm finding is for 67's.

Good to be here and learn.

David

Yes the cowl hood was an option, aka ZL2 hood.

No Z28 stripe on SS, would have 'hockey stick' stripe on fenders and doors, or no stripe at all. X22 would have the black tailpanel around the tail lights.

08D is the build date, 08=August, D=4th week, D80 is the spoiler option

That's what I figured. So many people sell a car stating original but only because the were told it was when they bought it. Someone has done a repaint at some time and added the hood stripes.

Thanks so much.

This link should give you a quick 1-stop source for many of the options and identifiers for a 69 - http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml

But be sure to ask on here also, as they are some exceptions and oddities from time-2-time ;)

And beware that folks are making fake tags so you cant always believe what your reading on the tag unless its verified to be authentic and belong to that actual car.

Thanks everyone. Seems I'm looking again. He doesn't have the original block with the car which as I understand it, makes it no more valuable than a X44. Back to looking again. I may just buy a X44 car and make a track car....SCAA Solo II. Unless I get lucky. Truthfully I'm not sure I have the knowledge to do a full resto on a numbers matching valuable car. The cars I've seen at show impress me, down to the assembly line build marks etc. But I'm still in the market to try. I have a neighbor that builds Chevelles in this nature so I plan to use him as a knowledge base and of course lots of questions here.

Thanks,
David

If you are interested in doing quite a few modifications, like for SCAA Solo ..., then it is usually base to just find a solid base for your project vs. spending a lot of time looking for a 'Numbers' vehicle.
Any amount you put out up front for a 'numbers' car will not be reflected in your finished product - they are only original once, and once you start changing and modifying them that all goes out the window ...

I'm of the opinion that anyone 'can' do a full resto - it just depends on their dedication and stick-to-it-ness in achieving that goal, same as any other endeavor in life
I've met and assisted folks throughout the years that you would never fiqure would ever take on these types of projects - and almost all of them finally achieved their goals (even Dreamweaver - but that's an 'Ol-guys' inside joke on here  )

It's fun to look over cars that are extensively redone to mirror their 'Day-1' or Factory original look - but always be aware that there are considerable restrictions in actually achieving this, as truely 'original' parts are very hard to come by and also very $$$$$ - not mention some of them even don't then actually replicate the "true" factory original condition(s) :p
Lots of other vehicles will exhibit parts offered by the 'repoppers' as "Original" when GM never even offered or installed them :secret:

Oh - and those "Chevelle" guys don't know $hit :stirpot:
As always - just a 'Camaro guys' humble opinions ...

I'm sitting in the middle at this time. If I can find a numbers matching car worth my time I wouldn't change thing and consider it an investment. If I go the race inspired direction I would go with a base code car. I would never cut up a numbers matching car. Just wouldn't feel right.

Ah come on.....Chevelles need love to. :D
